After seeing the official depth chart today the biggest surprise had to be OL Daniel Campbell not being listed in the 2-deep set........it seemed a little too surprising.

So we dug a little and a source told us that Campbell left the LU football program for undisclosed reasons. I attempted to get some verification from the LU football offices but received no comment.

Guess we'll know in time but we'll keep digging......

Somebody help me here, is more than the usual coming and going with players or is this normal for a startup or for college football in the times we live in?

That is worrisome, we're already so small on the line. Brock Wempa might have been signed as a replacement.

The only freshman coming in on the line that could probably play this year is Luke Campbell.

EDIT: I would say this is more than normal North, but that is just my opinion.

I think the new coaches are shaking things up and that's probably a good thing.

I don't have a problem if McKnight gets much better production out of the players we have left and coming in this fall. Some kids don't have the work ethic or the heart to play college when it now requires them to work because they are not now head and shoulders above the rest of the kids.

u know what..let em go! if they cant hang, or theyre too ashamed to play ball at LU then go! we dont need them here. If they wanna blow an opportunity and not be committed, bye bye!

On the contrary, our fans need to step it up and support our teams. My goodness, buying season tickets is one thing, but buying tickets and not attending games is another. Yea the money is here, fine, good, great.. but what happened to our fan base?! Same for basketball. WAKE UP BOREMONT! Thats what they mean when they say, "Were only as good as our weakest player," And our weakest area, right now, is our fans.

Wow, this is big. The left side of our O-line is gone. We need some size and Campbell and Oden provided that. We now have no returning starters from that side of the line. This is a big deal. I am ready to compete and this is set back. You know back in the 80's we had a coach that ran off a lot of talent to prove his point. The best season we had was 4-7 (this coaches first season) and that was because he hadn't had time to run people off. I hope this is not the case. We cannot afford anymore established players to leave. I have been pleased with the progress of the team, but we are going to have a lot of new starters in key positions. LU coaches, I hope you know what your doing. Somebody tell me it's gonna be okay.

I also agree that we need fans in seats.

No lineman over 290 listed on the first team. We are going to need to switch to the veer or a offense the service academies run, so we will have some offense. I am really nervous. I respect and admire hard working football players that are good students, but I also want to win some games. We are just thin and small on the O-line according to our two deep depth chart. Coach work your magic!

This means we really need somebody to step up.

Last year the OL was not very good and now the OL coach and 3 starters are gone. Oden was not giving 100% and Campbell was overweight. Woodard just signed a 310 lb JUCO lineman who will probably get a lot of playing time. Most of the returning OL are fairly young and have probably put on weight since last year.

SHSU has a great year with only 7 OL over 275 lbs according to their roster. Lamar will have at least 7 OL over 275 lbs on the team next year. They should be big enough to compete, we'll see if the talent and coaching is there to be competitive.

Pretty much normal, at least for SLC teams. I can tell you SFA lost about 7 or 8 players, for all different reasons. I would not sweat it at all, JMO.

Tweet from Chris Dabe:

Worth sharing immediately: OL Daniel Campbell left the team. He chose to leave school before finals, coach Ray Woodard said.

Why leave right before finals? Grades?

The grades go on your record regardless of when you leave. So it's not like he can exactly run from them.

I was told by sources outside the athletic dept that Campbell had issues on and off the field and they weren't surprised at this news.

I also asked someone at Lamar if there was a chance Campbell could get things resolved might he be back in the Fall and the answer was a quick "No."

from what i heard from last year..the team chemistry/discipline SUCKED...maybe now ray-ray has some players, he's doing some much needed house cleaning

we lost those 2 big o-line...big deal..they didnt wanna tow the line? one was 70 lbs overweight, the other a primadona..later days

o line has sucked for 2 years...cant get much worse

If we have no big linemen who is to blame for the small ones we have?

Lamar does have some decent sized linemen on the team. From the recently announced 2-deep depth chart, here's the size of the starting linemen:

LT Brock 255, LG Bailey 290, C Gillam 270, RG Robertson 275, RT Babin 280

310 lb Brock Wempa won't be on campus until this summer and there's a good chance he'll find his way into the starting lineup. Justin Brock is just a freshman, but he's 6-4 so he'll put on a lot of weight.

Here's Sam Houston's starting OL from the FCS title game:

LT Jenkins 290, LG Crocket 285, C Watson 290, RG Boyles 275, RT Hopson 300

That's not a huge front line yet they were far better than everyone else in the league.

Lamar's new OL coach McKnight should make a big difference and I'm expecting an improved offensive line even with a smaller lineup.

Need to read the excerpt from the above Lumberjack player profile, second sentence:

He was a key figure in the 'Jacks offensive line that led the nation in pass protection surrendering fewer sacks than anyone else in the country ...

Sam had the better team, but as far as O-lines go, SFA's was easily the best.

I meant SHSU had the best team, not the best OL. Looking at SFA's roster they do have a lot of big OL. Lamar does have 300 lb Luke Campbell coming in, but he's going to be freshman so I doubt he sees much playing time. I'm not expecting Lamar to have a great OL, just better than last year due to better coaching and more experience.

Looking at SFA's roster they do have a lot of big OL.

And 4 of the starting 5 OL's for SFA are coming back. I think the Jacks are only losing one offensive player.

Yes because we were discussing how good SFA's line is...

Well CA, "coachacola", not I, opened the subject of comparing other O-lines in the SLC, so, I thought it was open to discuss. Promise I won't mention it again. Happy?

Im sure that comment was said tongue in cheek. Of course this type of discussion is appreciated and wanted. The more conference school fans to chat sports the better.
