1978 Cardinals defeated the Long Beach State 49ers in Beaumont on the Saturday after Thanksgiving 36 - 31.

Long Beach had defeated San Diego State earlier in the year.

Long Beach disbanded their football program in 1991......and despite a couple of attempts to bring it back....it remains a non-football school.

We had some great years in the 70s, it's easy to see how fans got fed up with the direction of the program in the 80s.

Here's to Lamar returning to it's football heyday!

1973 Cardinals go 5 -5 beating UTEP 31-27 along the way.

Cards lost to West Texas State 13-0. WTS at that time played in the Missouri Valley Conference against the likes of Louisville, Tulsa, Wichita State. In 1990 they joined the aggie system, changed their name in 1993, and lost their identity. They now play in the Lone Star Conference.

Lamar’s defensive coordinator, Bill Bradley, still holds the Philadelphia Eagles records for career interception return yardage (536) and club single-season marks for interceptions and return yardage (11 for 249 in 1971). He led the NFL in interceptions (11) in 1971 and earned an All-Pro awarded at free safety.

McNeice, that's a good one. The Cowgirls IMO barely pulled out their win over us until the very end when our QB with a broken leg threw 2 or 3 interceptions for 6. If we're going to 'upset' anyone it will be them.

Vincent Vega to Jules: you know what they call a McRib in Lake Charles?

Jules : no what?

Vincent: a McNiece Cowboy

Jules: why they call it that?

Vincent: the similarities are many...looks good on the surface but underneath is just fat and chemicals.

I thought my last post was regarding a member of the "2012 Lamar Football Cardinals". Don't have any idea why it was moved. It didn't deserve it's own thread. It won't happen again.
