Guest CardAmbassador Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 I thought my last post was regarding a member of the "2012 Lamar Football Cardinals". Don't have any idea why it was moved. It didn't deserve it's own thread. It won't happen again. It was worthy of it's own topic, this topic is mainly about the history of the Lamar Cardinals football team. Please feel free to post where ever want. Thanks for posting. Quote

Guest CardAmbassador Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 My bad, I was totally thrown off by the thread that is entitled "Countdown to Kickoff - 2012 Lamar Football Cardinals". No need for any apology, I just thought it was so interesting important that it would be fair to make it it's own topic. We have high hopes for Jayce Nelson on the football team. Hope he sees some PT as a Fresh. Quote
Lamarcard81 Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 64 days 1964 Cards go 6-3-1. beating New Mexico aggies and tying Ark State Cards lost to N. Iowa 19-17 in the 1st ever Pecan Bowl in Abilene On the roster....Tony Guillory a Beaumont native that played linebacker for the NFL Rams and Eagles. (he may have been an OL for LU) Quote
Lamarcard81 Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 63 days 1963 Lamar Tech Cards go 5-4 beating Texas A&I (before they lost their identity) 16-14. Cards also beat Mexico's National Polytechincal Institute 33-26. On the Roster (maybe)....Colin Ridgway an Australian Olympic high jumper that was at Lamar on a track scholarship and punted for the football team (I think). He was picked up by the Dallas Cowboys for 3 games. He was a running drop-kicker. He was murdered in his house in Dallas in 1993 and the crime has never been solved. This 50 year old info is getting sketchy. Quote
Lamarcard81 Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 62 days 1962 Cards go 7-3. Beating East Texas State 28-6 (before they lost their identity) and the Mexico Polytech 34-6. On the Roster......Port Neches native Bill Worsham. Bill held several positions with LU and LPA before recently retiring. ***story my 91 yr old father told me.....Johnny Fuller (mentioned a few days ago) got ill at the Drake Relays and came home early....otherwise he would have been on the plane that crashed and killed several members of the Lamar track team and the coach on April 28, 1968.
