Well at least his HS coach was honest in his assesment of him. It sounds like Okafor either has a very strong independent streak in him or possibly work ethic issues. It also sounds like he has a ton of potential.

 

“He has to have a good bond with the coaches and understand where they’re coming from. He has to trust you have their best interests in mind. That’s one thing the coaching staff has to do. They’re going to have a rapport with him and get on him to get him to work.”

 

In contrast Johnson seems like he's ready to go. I think the OKIE ST. coaching staff was soar after losing this one. He appears to have play making abilities and is already able to tap into them.

This could be huge for Lamar as these players both address areas of need on this football team.

Anything new on Cam Newton? Who are our RB's for sure?

 

Cam Washington? 8)

 

There was a thread that said he was pretty close to being cleared.

Washington gets all the attention but we signed three RB's all of which were pretty good. two were all-state first team 4A.

There is:

Cam Washington - Corsicana

Desmond Richards - Montgomery (he was ranked pretty high in the Houston Area, he was the other 1st team all state RB)

Michael Handy - listed as an athlete, he played RB in HS. (was recruited by North Texas 2 star athlete on rivals.)

I was excited to see what this guy could do in Stillwater. I'm glad he's going to get a shot at another school. Hope he does well for you guys.

 

IMO Okafor couldnt have been totally happy with the switch to OL and being 3rd string behind two other underclassmen. Maybe this was his reasoning for looking around.

 

How about KJ? I thought he'd become a factor at WR for oSu this season. Was he just wanting to get closer to home? What were you guys hearing on him?

 

Also, what are you guys thoughts on the Herschel Sims situation? He was a stud coming out of Aledo and wouldve been a contributor for the Cowboys this season.

Darrell Harris was also mentioned as signing with us in some Waco newspaper, I don't think the AD ever officially announced his signing though. He was a legit guy who held out past signing day. I think we signed him in late February.

I noticed on the spring 2-deep roster that Marcus Washington was listed as a defensive end. I think he's a walk-on but I can't find any info on him. I'm guessing Okafor will probably knock him from the 2-deep. Anyone have any details on Marcus Washington?

I checked the roster, i guess his name ( Darrell Harris) wouldnt be on there yet. So we actually picked up a decent RB squad this year, wow! Please keep me posted on this topic its drivin me nuts lol!

You are correct. Our RB recruits just made us very deep there. I couldn't find the 2012 recruits list as the thread has disappeared, but here's what I recall:

 

Cam Washington, Darrell Harris, Desmond Richards, Michael Handy (RB, QB, WR),

Harris came up in a news article from Waco I believe after this list was compiled. Very unsure as to the his status. One thing I have noticed from Woodard, public relations and information flow is not a high priotity. If he wins the slc this year, I guess who cares right?

Darrell Harris signed later in February, not on Feb 1st like the rest. From everything I've seen around the internet he did sign with Lamar. I saw a tweet the other day from one of his relatives congratulating him on graduating and wishing him the best in college. I'm expecting him to be at Lamar this fall but I'm not certain about it.

 

If he is on the team then that's 4 RBs Woodard is bringing in: Harris, Washington, Handy and Richards. Wonder if we'll see one or two of these guys redshirted or switching positions?
