coachacola Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Washington said he grew uncomfortable with Lamar for reasons he didn't disclose. One reason he did make public was that Lamar asked him to consider redshirting for the 2012 season. Guest CardAmbassador Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 sucks to hear but I'm not really all that surprised or disappointed. Academically he was having a little trouble getting here. Plus we signed a whole stable of talented running backs, for some reason C-Wash got the most attention but they all look legitimate to me. Darrell Harris Mike Handy (signed as athlete but I bet we see him as RB) Desmond Richards These guys will anchor us at RB for years to come. Quote
coachacola Posted July 1, 2012 Author Posted July 1, 2012 If the coaches were considering red-shirting him then he probably wasn't going to get a lot of playing time. Without him Lamar will still have 6 RBs on the roster. Quote
coachacola Posted July 1, 2012 Author Posted July 1, 2012 The coaches seem to be high on Michael Handy: Lamar has big plans for Handy when they start football. "They gave me a full ride, so the coach basically said I will be possibly starting as a receiver and maybe play some as a running back," Handy said. Handy believes that he will be on the field soon for the team. "My freshman year I will be on the field in red, white, and black,"Handy said. Handy has already started preparing for the start of the season. "Coach sent me a workout book, so I will be following that until June when I go back there," Handy said. samOWNSlamar Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Sounds like yall couldn't promise the big seller. Playing time can kill ya. Quote
LU1991 Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Not surprised. This never felt right from the start. I wish the best for Mr. Washington but we should have a load of talent coming in at RB. Quote
Guest CardAmbassador Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 I was very confused why Cam Washington seemed to be stand out name when Desmond Richards and Darrell Harris both had outstanding stats as well. Quote
Mike Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 I called a source at the Football office to ask about Washington. Their reply was Washington cut contact with LU (for no reason given) and he was never told by the staff that they may have plans to redshirt him. My thoughts are maybe someone got in his ear telling him to go to Navarro, get his grades right, perform for 2-years then maybe he'd have a shot at a bigger FBS school....JMO. Quote
LUSportsFan Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 According to the Navarro site, he double signed with them and us. Just doesn't sound like he had much of a commitment. One advantage for Navarro is it's in his home town. About all I can say is that I wish him well. For us, it sounds like we have some good running backs coming in. Quote
Mike Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 According to the Navarro site, he double signed with them and us. I think they do that as a backup in case they don't make the grades to get into LU. Lamar had more than one from that signing class that did the same thing. The OL from West Brook comes to mind. I think he signed with Navarro & LU as well. Quote

I think you are dead on on this one. Someone had to have got in his ear. Hope it works out for him. Quote
Guest bigred360 Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 If he was told that by coaches at Navarro then the coach who was here as a special teams coach and WR coach isn't a very good friend to Coach Woodard. Their is a unwritten rule among coaches if a player commits to a school you quit recuiting him. I think we have some very good RB's coming in and if Washington didn't want to be here well later.....We don't need you! Quote
samOWNSlamar Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 I don't believe that is an unwritten rule. It's either get yours or get behind. Quote
Lamarcard81 Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Is it out of the question that Navarro is acting as an unofficial Junior Varsity for LU? Quote
Guest CardAmbassador Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Is it out of the question that Navarro is acting as an unofficial Junior Varsity for LU? It's not out of the question, this does happen where a school signs a guy that goes to JUCO and leaves a place open for him in two years. But I don't think that's the case because it sounds like he really doesn't want to be here, why else would the coaching staff say they lost contact with him. If he were a juco project then he would want to maintain a good relationship with the coaching staff. Quote
coachacola Posted July 2, 2012 Author Posted July 2, 2012 Washington's status with Lamar seemed shaky from the start with his grades and his dual signing with Navarro. Darrell Harris' signing was never officially announced (as far as I can tell) so hopefully he'll be playing for Lamar this fall. Like Washington, Harris made 1st team 4A all-state so he could be just as good or better. And compared to last year the team is a whole lot deeper at RB, with or without Washington. Quote
Guest bigred360 Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 I don't believe that is an unwritten rule. It's either get yours or get behind. If a player is uncommitted then yes I totally agree get yours then some but my brother was a High School coach and had SEVERAL DI athletes and many of them were MAJOR DI prospects and once a kid commits to a school a coach with some character and integrity would left this kid alone. That is a major reason some kids commit as early as their junior years. So the phone calls will quit coming on a daily basis. Quote
