August 15, 201213 yr What concern does this have for Lamar? The Panthers are currently scheduled to play the Cardinals in Beaumont in 2013. If this game stays on the schedule LU will be the only FCS school in the country to host a FBS team at their stadium. Current rules dont allow FCS teams to host FBS teams but this game will be allowed since GSU was FCS when it was scheduled. Hopefully whoever the new coach is will honor the contract. August 17, 201213 yr I went to their athletic site, and it looks like they are playing a FCS schedule this season so I would think that next year would be a provisional year. I am not sure what that means in terms of the game at Lamar, but I am going to guess that they will probably cancel it. The reasons I believe this are: 1. They may need to play additional money games next season to finance their jump to FBS. 2. I am not certain about the NCAA, but I am sure that the SBC has a rule against members playing games at FCS schools. How will this rule affect a provisional member? I am not sure.
August 17, 201213 yr If I remember correctly, I read an article earlier this year where the Georgia State AD said he intends to honor the contract and come to Beaumont next year. Of course, contracts can always be broken so we'll see what happens.
August 17, 201213 yr Author If I remember correctly, I read an article earlier this year where the Georgia State AD said he intends to honor the contract and come to Beaumont next year. Of course, contracts can always be broken so we'll see what happens. This is true. That's why I said if they honor it LU would be the only FCS school in the USA to host a FBS school next season. I dont know if Curry leaving will affect this.
