Guest LU 17 Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Well that's all nice and sweet, SHSU is competing with Baylor and they are much better than Hawaii. I didn't expect a win, but I also didn't expect dominated, outmanned and out coached. We looked pathetic, unorganized and not prepared. If it's all about the money then let's see some stadium improvements/additions. If we went over there to win, we looked like a high school team. I am a LU supporter, alumni and Cardinal club member. I want to see our football team succeed as much as the next guy. This was a big set back. We have teams in our conference that are better than Hawaii. I just expected a better showing than this. Guest LU 17 Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Let me clarify. Yes I think Baylor is better than Hawaii. I do think SHSU could beat Hawaii as SHSU stood toe to toe with Baylor. If we play the same game we did against Hawaii, SHSU will drop 60 or 70. SHSU has an awesome defense and a good offense. These FBS games are not supposed to be complete domination losses. If we were playing Bama, I would take a 50 point loss. We played a mediocre FBS team at best and we were destroyed. I guess I was a homer and thought we were better than we were. Quote

Guest Crawfish Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 This... There are reasons for the levels of colege football, even in D1. The fact is that FBS teams have much more depth (because of added scholarships) and are able to attract more quality players than FCS team. By the same token the non-AQ league schools have a disadvantage over the AQ league schools. Personally, I do not think Lamar should be playing more than one of these games per year because playing them tends to lower team morale and lower the fans opinion of the team. In actual fact, right now nothing is known about the Cardinals because They have played 2 teams in which they were heavy underdogs to and 1 SWAC team which they were heavy favorites. So far, there have been no surprises. Now they just need to prepare for league play and we should reserve judgement until they start playing their conference games. I hope no one gives up at this point. It is way too early to throw in the towel. It was ugly but we are 1-2 and not 0-3 as some had feared. and we could easily be 3-2 and 1-0 in conference in 2 weeks. Quote
Austin Card Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Jet lag, distractions, scheduling nightmare, 5 hr. time change, etc. There has been a multitude of quality football programs fall victim to the Rainbows unusual home field advantage. Although, everyone has their right to an opinion, based on the outcome I don't think this particular event is a relevant evaluation of our current state. Remember, 3 years ago we were in the mist of having nothing now we are expecting our program to compete with D1 schools. Not going to happen 10 years from now even if we resurrect Vince Lombardi and place a Cardinal hat on him. This weekend there were many D1AA schools that got their a_s handed to them by larger schools. Many Universities put large amounts of money in the coffers, instead we got a trip of a lifetime for many of these kids. At least, our players got the benefit of their years of sacrifice where the other athletes across the nation will never see a penny of those millions of dollars. By the way, ULL got a mud hole stomp in them by OSU but they made 1.2 mil. When playing larger schools the weak will always be exposed in the trenches . I know for a fact that the Oline is working their butts everyday to get better. The line is the engine that makes the train run and I feel confident they will get on track. In conclusion, it is easy to stand back and evaluate from a far but to be supportive and positive through adversity is not easy. I assure you, Jay Cry Baby Cutler regrets (maybe not him) the minute he pushed his Olineman. That action achieves nothing but animosity where a pat on the back and a whisper " get um next time" goes a whole lot farther. Those who are perfect cast stones, those who are not, support those who you were going to throw at. I agree with you. Most of my comments last night were made out of frustration and probably went a little overboard. I will continue to support this team and coach. Lets put this behind us and move forward. I'm just tired of the embarrassments. Quote
Guest bossman73 Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Special teams needs alot of WORK, it cost us 30 plus points and the game!!. also it is hard to block 7 with 5 in the box. Quote
Guest CardAmbassador Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Yes, you have to support this team, they're playing opponents I expect to lose to, but it's how we lose, its the decision making and turnovers by special teams that frustrates me more than anything. I don't know what to take away from this game. I'm not sure if our problems on special teams is fixable or not, seemed like with new coaches that recognized the problems we could at least fix the special teams blunders this year but maybe not. I wasn't expecting to win or score alot of points but I was really hoping we wouldn't dig our own grave in this game. That's LU Footballs MO in big games, we beat ourselves up as much as the team we're playing. Quote
cardinal Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Now that have had time to get a good nights rest, calm down, and properly reflect on last nights game; to the defense...well, you played pretty good and never quit so kudos to you. Too everything else BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote

I hope the coaches and their families had a nice vacation In my opinion, it not realistic to compare our program to SHSU because they are currently the elite of our conference and we are 3 years removed from a 20 plus yr. death sentence. I can remember back in the early 80's when SHSU football was not very competitive nor relevant. In fact, I remember playing them on their home turf (early 80's) and there were more folks participating on the field than in the stands. As far as this game being a huge set back that could be overstatement. I think a losing to PVM or Langston could be labeled a set back but a game that took 12 hrs to get to, loss of 2 days of practice time and overwhelming distractions can be one for the ages. Quote

Agree with coach, Hawaii has more quality depth across the board than anyone in the SLC. But then look what ULM has done this year, a program that was on the skids 3 years ago. I know they are FBS, but they were really struggling. Shows what really good recruiting can do, and we need to make sure we get the kids we really should be getting, both out of HS, juco, or transfers into the program. As long as we keep improving, I will support the coaching staff. Which I see as the biggest improvement this year. We are better at QB & defense this year. I also would like to see Kevin Johnson return kicks in conference games. Secondary plays hard, but seems undersized and a bit slow when closing on the play. Quote
Guest LU 17 Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Well Jettyman, I played at SHSU old stadium in the mid 80's during the great flood. They beat us that day also. 3 year team or not it's time to start winning I can already see the excuses mounting. Well I hate to break the news to y'all, we have some elite teams in our conference. If our league is to tough maybe we should schedule more teams in Langstons conference. Or, let's toughen up, quit making excuses. You know, back in the 80's we were a D1AA and we played the other U of H team and it ended with us losing by a touchdown. I didn't expect to beat Hawaii, but I did expect to score some points and move the ball a little bit. We did nothing. Quote

I don't think we could have scored on their equipment guys or trainers as looking as they were trying to blitz. Quote
Guest mendelj Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Mike Moss had plenty time to throw or he wouldn't have been 11 for 18. Did he have plenty of time everytime, no, but that is reality. No quarterback is going to have plenty of time to throw everytime he drops back, that's the nature of the game and that is where mobility, creativity, and versatility comes into play. If one is not getting the job done CONSISTENTLY, put one in that can. It's time to stop making excuses and start playing ball. Still wondering what the criteria was for earning the starting spot.
