October 4, 201213 yr Lamar football fans before the season expected a high-powered offense that would outshine the sputtering versions of the last two seasons. That could still happen, but it will take time. Lamar ranks at or near the bottom of the Southland Conference in several offensive categories through five games. Oklahoma State transfers Kevin Johnson and Herschel Sims have been productive. But coaches must decide how to produce behind undersized linemen, coach Ray Woodard said. October 4, 201213 yr I took em till October to figure this out? pass pass and more pass I can watch a bad passing team...at least its entertaining..but a bad triple option team? that has all the appeal of a kidney stone...
October 4, 201213 yr Author I think it's taking time implement a more complicated offense with a lot of new players. There's maybe 3 or 4 starters back from last year: Gillam, Robertson, McVey (who's been hurt) and Ford. As far as the OL goes, for the 2nd straight game they are going with RS-FR Brock (280), SO-IL Kelso (280), JR-2L Gillam (270), SR-1L Robertson (270) and JR-2L Babin (280). That's an average weight of 276, not 270 like the article says. I guess the 300+ lbs OL on the team just aren't that good.
October 4, 201213 yr Does Lamar need 300 pound linemen? Or do they need stronger linemen? I think sometimes people get size mixed up with strength.
October 5, 201213 yr Stronger because if the bench wieghts posted are true I can lift more than 90% of the o-line and I am only 220 lbs. just saying
October 5, 201213 yr No doubt, strength is important for lineman but the combination of leverage, balance and set is the icing on the cake.
