Redrain07 Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 Those are two huge factors man. UTSA went from being unexsistent to CUSA in what 2 or 3 years? They have something we don't obviously and I don't understand why anyone would want UTA but hey it is what it is jack! Quote
BigRed98 Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 The main point that has been made is that LU will not get to pick when it gets the invite. When it comes, it must be accepted. Otherwise, an inherent decision will have been made to stay FCS for the long term. I agree, we might as well get blown out at the FBS level. This move is NOT just about football anyway. We have a MBB coach that is way bigger than the SOuthland. DO we want to keep him? THis is why you move to a bigger conference. Football follows along, and will hopefully gain traction at some point. Seriously admins, would it be that bad to just ban nickels and cougar king? I like reading posts from other school's fans, but these two are intent on ruining the board. Quote
Guest CardAmbassador Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 They're both very clearly biased and are normally just trolling to make people angry. I just ignore them the few times I even bother to read what they wrote. Quote

jdcurran235 Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 I think we should repin this discussion to the board. Re: *Rumored Lamar to FBS discussion* Quote
jdcurran235 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Is there any chance this can be retagged Quote
jdcurran235 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 I havent heard anything but there is rumors about rutgers and UCONN going around that could trickle down to the SBC. This really could be our year for getting an SBC invite. I have a feeling there will be lots of realignment discussion this year to keep up with. Thats why I think the expansion thread needs to come off the classics list. There is already realignment rumors going on. Quote
LUSportsFan Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 No longer.a rumor about Rutgers. They received and accepted an invitation to the B1G. Quote
jdcurran235 Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 according to the sunbelt board, Monday could be some announcements for the ACC on expansion. Could be an interesting week next week. Quote
jdcurran235 Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 IF the Beast and CUSA go for big grabs from the SBC and MWC, there is a potential that we could get invites to either conference. What conference would everyone prefer? This is a hypothetical, because our best shot is probably the SBC anyway. I am just curious what conference people would prefer. Quote
LUSportsFan Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 I'd prefer going back to the Sun Belt. Of the two, I think it would be a better fit for us. Quote
jdcurran235 Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 I could go either way. I think the teams in the MWC align better with us academically as an engineering school and we are not really a southeastern team. But I would like to be in the same conference as ULL and TxSt. I am torn really. I like both conferences. Quote
LUSportsFan Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 I could go either way also. By better fit, I was thinking of a few things. 1. Travel Costs both for teams and fans - especially if the conference was set up in East / West divisions Closest road trip for SBC is two hours. Closest for MWC as it now stands would be to Albuquerque 2. Past history - ULL, ArkSt, and UALR were with us in the ASAC and Sun Belt. TxSt and UTA were with us in the SLC. WKU and USA SBC members with us. ULM was with us for a short time in the SLC. 3. Past Rivalriies - We would have to rebuild it, but we had a good rivalry in basketball with ULL. We've continued to play them in OOC. I think there are good reasons supporting the MWC also, but I think there would be more of a need to go with someone than with a move to the SBC. Quote
coachacola Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Just read that ECU and Tulane are leaving CUSA for the Big East. That could lead to 1 or 2 schools leaving the Sun Belt for the CUSA. Time to watch the dominoes fall. Quote
coachacola Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 I wonder if UTEP is losing interest in the CUSA with all these changes. Now the other Texas schools in the CUSA are UNT, UTSA and Rice, maybe they'll prefer the MWC over them. That could also trigger a move by Texas State to CUSA or the MWC. I think it's even possible for LU and SHSU to move together to the Sun Belt. Quote
lu cards Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 sunbelt would be ideal for lamar.i would like to see us and sam make the move together. Quote
jdcurran235 Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 I see LU, SHSU, and TxSt all passing up most of the schools in the SBC except for may ULL in short time. I think with the population growth in texas and how fast the TSUS is improving as a whole, this could become a powerful conference. Give it 10 years, if we are invited. Quote
ThePrisoner Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Just read that ECU and Tulane are leaving CUSA for the Big East. That could lead to 1 or 2 schools leaving the Sun Belt for the CUSA. Time to watch the dominoes fall. Yes, MTU is leaving for CUSA - and there's talk of FAU going with them. If FAU goes, the SBC becomes more centered around the deep South. With several western half SBC schools easily reachable by bus and none as far away as the Florida schools were, Lamar is a perfect candidate for the SBC. There's a need for some heavy PR now to take advantage of the situation. Quote
coachacola Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Jack @WACJack RT @dkurtenbach The favorites to repopulate the Sun Belt: Georgia Southern, Appalachian State and Sam Houston State Jack @WACJack (good to know) RT @dkurtenbach There is no exit fee to leave the Sun Belt Conference Quote
