Lamar is in 4th. RT @dixiefriedsport: @dkurtenbach About what I would've thought, but I've heard Lamar is more ready than SHSU.

Joshua E Parrott@JoshuaParrott Some argue Appalachian St, Georgia Southern, Lamar & Sam Houston St have more upside than NMSU. But #SunBelt needs FBS team right now.

@dixiefriedsport Lamar makes sense being in geographical footprint of Sun Belt. Ga Southern & App St=would be solid. NMSU=Who knows.

I would be shocked if these conferences are through with their realignments. The MWC hasn't made any moves yet. Some of these schools that are now in the new Big East and new CUSA may not be happy with their new conference mates. UTEP, Tulsa, Boise State, San Diego State may all be looking to going to or back to the MWC. I guess we just have to wait and see what happens.

Their official stance will be "no comment."

If it happens, it happens. I'm not that worried about this stuff anymore. No matter how all this shakes out the same big power conferences will still have most of the money, power and prestige. Schools like Lamar will still be left fighting for the leftover crumbs, no matter if they are in the SLC or the SBC.

I don't really care what the few fans on the Sun Belt forum say about Lamar, they have zero influence on what happens. I want to see Lamar in the SBC, and I think it'll happen soon, and it'll be with all the leftover small market SBC schools. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing because stability can be a good thing for a conference.

The teams that are leaving (UNT, FIU, FAU, MTSU) are the ones that really haven't had that many good seasons. CUSA seems to be reloading mostly with schools that haven't much success or have new programs (UTSA, ODU, Charlotte). The Sun Belt could end up with solid football schools in small markets, which I think isn't necessarily a bad thing if they can win. ULM showed this year with their small budget they can make some noise in the FBS. Both App State and Georgia Southern have good fan bases and consistently win at the FCS level. The Sun Belt could become a stable conference because nobody seems to want small market schools.

There are strong indications that this could have some legs. I guess we'll find out something official soon but the smoke is thick from this one.
