I think the TSUS board of regents will need to approve any move by Lamar to the Sun Belt and there are no special meetings scheduled yet. If Lamar is to get an invite then the the board of regents will announce on their website a special meeting for it.

Lamar to Sunbelt on Troy's forums:

where did that aerial view come from?!...it looks nice though

How about how they made it look like there are stands in the south end zone.

I'm pretty sure the picture came from this forum. coachacola or someone else made it a long time ago.

It looks like we left South Alabama with a good impression of Lamar:

"Many South Alabama fans may know some about Lamar University. The Jags played their first true road game against the Cardinal in Beaumont, TX a couple years ago in the Jaguars second season of football. Football had been dropped from Lamar back in 1989 but in January of 2008 the students voted to add an athletic fee to bring football back to the University. Their stadium had a huge overhaul and a large jumbotron screen was installed. Their campus is very nice and could be a nice hidden gem in conference expansion."

I just did some reading on a sun belt conf. Site. It seems like our program is respected despite our poor SLC showing. Maybe they are looking at our potential.

U of H showed their new stadium today and it is top of the line. I have not been to Provost yet but id imagine alot can still be done to upgrade even more now that we r talking or being discussed about moving up. Whats the stadium expansion news around town?

Nothing new to report on going to the Sun Belt or expanding the stadium, and I'm guessing Lamar won't do one without the other. But if Lamar does go to the Sun Belt, they'll get a nice bump to their athletic budget because of the new BCS agreement with all the FBS conference.

If the Sun Belt expands to 12 football schools then each school would receive about $1.3 million annually. In addition, being a FBS school means that guarantee games pay at least twice as much. So if Lamar joins the Sun Belt that would add at least $2 million to the budget, which is already close to $15 million this year. I think a $17 to $18 million budget would work in the Sun Belt, that's on par with a lot of Sun Belt schools.

From the Sun Belt Insider Monday Dec. 17th

http://sunbeltinsider.blogspot.com/2012/12/what-will-sun-belt-conference-do.html

FWIW

The answers comes down to this, the Sun Belt Conference will add two programs at minimum to get back to 10 programs in football and 12 in all sports. I ask who might they add, or who is the SBC considering? The answers were Appalachian State and Georgia Southern which tops the list in FCS programs along with Lamar University in Texas. There was no mention of any other programs from the FCS in those conversations.

Sun Belt expansion is on hold for a little bit due to the basketball schools leaving the Big East.

So until the Big East football-playing schools declare their intentions, the Sun Belt is in something of a holding pattern.

"We could make moves today if we wanted to," Benson said, "but I think it would be prudent to find out what's gonna happen in the bigger picture, in the landscape.

"I don't think we would put any type of artificial deadline, or arbitrary deadline, on it."

The pool of other prospective new Sun Belt members is known to include Georgia Southern, Appalachian State, Jacksonville (Ala.) State, Liberty, Lamar and Sam Houston State of the Southland Conference and - for football only - New Mexico State and Idaho.

Benson suggested the Sun Belt fully intends to add least two new members, but he did not rule out the possibility of four or even six.

UTPA was invited to the WAC! What a joke.

I've lost heart in following conference realignment. I was just shocked to see that UTPA was going to the WAC. They should have invited like four SLC schools when they had the chance. now that conference is a huge joke.

The WAC is just trying to survive as a non-football conference. I think Lamar would be in limbo like Idaho and NMSU if they would have joined last year. I'm still not wavering from my belief that Lamar will end up in the Sun Belt sometime in the future.
