puddin tane Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 actual had to be around 4k...i dont think there was over 1k on the east side...looked like maybe 25 students Quote
jdcurran235 Posted November 11, 2012 Author Posted November 11, 2012 The stadium has 16k room and the home side was almost totally full. So 8k is probably right. Quote
dirtybird Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 yes but those 25 students was working Nicholls bench. One of Nicholls players got so made , he threw water on the students. Just wished there would of been a thousand or so ribbing them. Quote

LUSportsFan Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Coach Woodard, I was disappointed with Saturday's attendance also, but things could be a lot worse. There are several things that affected this season's attendance. Winning consistently, showing progress, and properly selling the program should help increase attendance in the future. I'm with you as far as getting fans in the stands. I don't agree with the approach of calling out potential fans because you haven't sold the program yet, though. Here's the average home attendance for the SLC per NCAA official statistics through November 11. Attendance ranking is to the left of team. SLC record and overall records to the right. 23. McNeese - 12,237 3-3 6-4 (Receiving votes in Coaches and The Sports Network FCS polls 11/5/2012) 25. Lamar - 11,119 1-5 4-7 36. SHSU - 9,352* 6-1 8-2 (#3 in Coaches and The Sports Network FCS polls 11/5/2012) 40. UCA - 8,909 6-1 8-2 (#13 in Coaches and #14 in The Sports Network FCS poll 11/5/2012) 43. NWSU - 8,759 2-4 4-6 76. SFA - 6,301* 3-4 4-6 81. Nicholls State - 5,651 0-6 1-8 85. SELU - 5,266 4-2 4-6 *SHSU vs SFA game at Houston's Reliant Stadium pulled in 26,185 ** SFA, UCA, and McNeese have one home game remaining this season. Just for grins, there are three FBS programs below us in average attendance this year. Akron - 9,275 San Jose State - 9,228 Eastern Michigan - 4,437 Attendance Data Source: http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/mainpage.jsp?year=2012 Quote
puddin tane Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Idaho isnt behind us? they must be cooking the books this year Quote
LUSportsFan Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Idaho's ahead, but they are close at 13,470. If our attendance for the 3:00 pm kickoffs (SLC games) had averaged as much as the others, we would have come close to beating Idaho again; not this year though. I know we've beat this to death, but might as well add on. Here's a comparison of average attendance by start time (all divisions) 7:00 pm kickoff (Prairie View, Langston, McMurry) 13,744 Prairie View - 15,367 Langston - 12,383 (DII) McMurry - 13,482 (DIII transitioning to DII) 3:00 pm kickoff (SELU, SHSU, NSU) 8,505 SELU - 8,426 SHSU - 9,042 NSU - 8,047 Based on quality of opponent, it seems like attendance would have been greater with 3:00 pm kickoff. I definitely don't think there's a 5,239 attendance difference due to fan apathy. Something else is going on....killing tailgate might be one. Conflicting Saturday activities might be another. Wonder what the incremental savings or cost was by moving games to a 3:00 pm kickoff. Using $15.00 ticket prices and not including concessions, it would take up to $235,755 to break even. Can't quantify the fan apathy reduction in attendance, but McMurry had 13,452. Highest attendance against an SLC opponent was 9,042 with SHSU. I actually think our fans showed a lot of support with the attendance in the games against the DII and DIII transitioning to DII programs. Based on the timing, there's no way low attendance in the SLC games could be solely due to a disgruntled fan base. Langston was right after we got pounded by Hawai'i. McMurry was right after we had two losses on the road in conference. Quote
nickels Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Highest attendance against an SLC opponent was 9,042* with SHSU. *Not even close to 9,042 FIFY Quote
LUSportsFan Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Highest attendance against an SLC opponent was 9,042* with SHSU. *Not even close to 9,042 FIFY Take a look at the Box Scores for the game on the Sam Houston State Athletics Official Site. I did. That site's box score shows 9,042. Giving the poster the benefit of the doubt, there are two ways to count attendance (1) Actual Attendance (2) Paid Attendance. I'll bet we are using Paid Attendance. I believe that's the most common method. I personally have no problem with using Paid Attendance since that ties directly to athletic department financial revenues. Just wondering if the not even close remark is based on the poster's actual attendance at the game. The East side of the stadium is always less than the West side. The SLC broadcast video at the start of the game confirmed that. If it's still up check the first few seconds of the full game broadcast on the SLC site. I did and don't see any reason to question the attendance to a significant degree. How do SHSU and other conference universities measure attendance? Butts in the seats or paid attendance. I'll bet it's paid attendance. There are specific guidelines for FBS in measuring the rolling two year average of 15,000 requirement. I haven't seen anything for FCS, but that doesn't mean FCS does not have guidelines. FBS guidelines allow for Actual or Paid. There are specific requirements associated with each. If there are no FCS guidelines, I would expect a program with any future thoughts of moving up to DI FBS would adopt the FBS guidelines just for comparison purposes. Quote
puddin tane Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 i think everybody uses paid attendance Quote
