I know there is another Thread on this, but it is a bit dated and 16 pages long.

I posted this on our board in December and am now just getting around to posting it here. Hopefully, you find it to your liking. There are other mentions as well and most are positive. Troy doesn't/can't throw stones at very many other schools - tiny town/small endowment/not a research University/relatively small, but dedicated, loyal and passionate following.

I don't lurk on the SunBelt Board either, just too many trolls (except that ArkStateFan-who seems to have his pulse on the SunBelt) and obviously their comments about Lamar and Sam Houston are based on guessing.

Obviously, I think Lamar would be a much better fit for the SunBelt than Sam Houston, James Madison or Richmond. Lamar would fit in nicely with Texas State, ULL, even USA; and UTA for other sports. If reports that NMSU is working with GaSouthern to join as well, Lamar would make even more sense if we were to split the conference into East and West.

And don't kid yourself, Beaumont is a big plus. Outside of Atlanta (and nobody there cares about Georgia State), Beaumont is a major metropolitan area compared to the rest of the Belt towns.

I'm starting to believe again, hope our bad basketball and football team don't hold us back though. :(

I just hope we have the same interest and support from those who make the decision on realignment

You might be in luck...Dear Leader (Troy Chancellor Jack Hawkins) will not let SBC go down on his watch and Lamar fits in nicely with his eye towards a Regional-friendly conference. That rules out James Madison, Richmond, Idaho and probably Liberty. In fact, one only has to look back at the Little Caesars Bowl selection (WKU over MTSU) to tell how he operates-and I applaud him for it. He wants to make MTSU pay for making a big show announcement back in December. Replace a dump like MTSU with a Carnegie Research University would bring him pleasure.

I know GaSouthern is moving up, but I am not so sure about App.State. Sure their support is good, but I don't know how interested their admin is in making the move. Please see emails between GaSouthern and NMSU and clandestine meetings in Atlanta. IF you read the tea leaves and let's say just GaSouthern and NMSU are invited, it only makes sense to invite one more "western" based school to fill the league's footprint out.

The Sunbelt is what it is - a regionally set of schools based in primarily second/third-tier or in Troy's case rural communities. The schools left don't try to shuffle themselves off as anything different. MTSU thinks that Nashville pays attention to them-they don't; FAU and FIU are a joke in south Florida and North Texas thinks they bring in the DFW market- yea right. I don't know what Western Kentucky thinks themselves as- probably more MAC than anything else and they may be leaving as well. The Sunbelt would probably taut Beaumont because you have more then 3 elevators in town.

I like the fact that the sunbelt is a regional conference. I think it would be a great fit for us and the Sun Belt. I would love to see us, mcneese, sfa, and shsu all in the sunbelt. I realize that probably won't happen. Back in the day we had great rivalries with several of the sun belt schools so it would be great to se those rivalries renewed. By the way, Troy has a great athletic program. I would live to see y'all come here for a conference game!!
