What is really troubling is the constant exodus of coaches and players from the program. Is Lamar not a good job? I don't believe it's because the great success enjoyed here at Lamar is making all these coaches so sought after. It sure makes you wonder what the problem is. As far as players they get players with maturity issues or off field troubles and we are surprised when they bail. I'm willing to be patient in 2013 but if Coach Woodard doesn't field a much better team I'm joining the "fire Ray" crowd. I've seen plenty of posts questioning the fitness level of our team and I've seen for myself how we get manhandled all-too-often. Hopefully, the guy who is going to replace the old guy does a better job.

I heard he is leaving for a better paying job outside of football. I also heard the O line is doing pretty well in spring practices. Not always bad, seems like all that is talked about on here is bad news, are negative. Kind of gets a little old.

I know it sucks loosing, and Lamar has had their problems on the field, but bitching and complaining all the time isnt going to fix anything.

Here's your chance. Everyone who constantly talks crap about the S&C program can sign up and show them your expertise. All you need is a 4 year degree. LIT grads need not apply.

Ok Woot, all BS aside, really unvarnished and truthful, what is your thoughts on the size and strength of LU's team, especially both lines compared to SHSU?

I know the question was to Wooten, but I follow both programs enough to feel as if I could comment.

I don't know what the different sizes are listed as for either team, but watching the game in person the last two years and watching LU on TV the couple of times I was able to, they appeared to be undersized. Hell, it could have been the uniforms and pads making the m look that way, but I would venture to guess that with the results on the field, what I saw wasn't too far off with that assessment. I remember watching the SELA v LU game this last year and a family member called me from Lubbock and said it looked like two high school teams playing. I couldn't disagree, both teams looked awfully small for FCS.

Strength and Conditioning programs are a huge part of college sports and Lamar has been well behind the curve in this area in all sports for a very long time. Football was started and the university finally had to make it a priority so they now have a strength coach but just like any other position coach for football, if you are changing strength coaches, and they change the overall program the guys are on, then it will take longer to see the dividends.

AS for SHSU, I know their S&C coach has done a great job and has his system fully in place for the Bearkats and the results over the last two years have been partially a result of that. We run a speed based/option type offense where our O line has to move around, but they don't seem to get overwhelmed in pass protection either. The D Line guys don't seem to be over matched on the field either.

I would love to know what high school has linemen that average 287+

It's not even close to comparable that your lineman are undersized. A lot of our OL guys go through 2-3 years of the SHSU S&C before they start playing. Each year it seems like we stress about 1 or 2 Sr. OL guys, but the So. and Jr. behind them fill in nicely. As I've said before, recruiting those JuCo guys are hit and miss when it comes to S&C. You've got some guys who may have only had 1 year of REAL S&C training and are coming in unprepared.

Once RW & Co. start recruiting HS OL and they stick with the program, I think Lamar will "catch up." It also depends on the type of offense you're running. We had a handful of undersized guys in the mid-2000s because we were a pass first team. Since WF came in, we've been getting the bulkier speed guys that can zone block.
