  1. Hamilton has another year with the new Juco rule. However, I am guessing he will go get a check somewhere. Especially since he walked on senior night.
  2. All we need to do is raise a half million or so a year for Cardinal hoops to match what McNeese is paying their players and he will have a much better chance to go from 2nd in conference to first…
  3. We love to bitch and moan about coaching, etc, but often don’t give props where it’s due. Lamar may have lost some games they should have won, but overall Brooks has done a very nice job with this program. They have improved every single year under his leadership. And he’s a guy that’s committed and loyal to the University. He didn’t do much right while he was here, but Marco made a very nice hire with Alvin Brooks.
  4. Eh, Southeasrern goes to Corpus and UTRGV to end the season. Corpus obviously isn’t a gimme and the Vaqueros have been a Jekyll and Hyde team (but more Jekyll lately, especially last night vs McNeese). I get your point though - a game like last night we should win would have given us a game cushion. Also, Nicholls is now in a tie with SELA for third and we play them in the finale after McNeese. We won at their place so I’m not sure what the tiebreaker would be with them if we split. I guess bottom line is win both and it’s all the way to the semis at the conference tournament, split and there’s still a chance. Lose both and not bloody likely.
  5. Tough loss in a game you should win but the bright side is SELA also lost, at home to Northwestern, to keep the Cards in sole possession of 2nd.
  6. Much better second half to pick up a road victory. Very nice game out of Holifield. Lamar now alone in second after SELA dropped a close one to McNeese (despite 25 points and 7 rebounds out of Buckley).
  7. J Buck just named conference player of the week for second week in a row. He’s gonna mess around and be first team all conference. Glad to see our former Card and Shelbyville Dragon doing so well. Great kid.
  8. BMDs in Lake Charles from what I hear. We certainly have a few alums (well at least 2) that could probably buy and sell their entire alum roster multiple times but I don’t think they really care about having a winning basketball team that much. Hard to complain about them though when they’ve financed almost every new structure on that campus.
  9. The win keeps the Cards in a 3 way tie for second. I’m a long time lurker, first time poster here. I know there has been a decent amount of grumbling about the staff on here. I get fan frustration and I’m certainly not above it. But the reality is that the program has improved each year with Brooks at the helm (if you start with his first year). And the harsh reality we may not want to admit is, under the current state of college basketball and the Southland Conference, Lamar’s ceiling is second place. As long as McNeese is in the conference (I would say Will Wade but it’s more the money they are spending on NIL imo), or unless Lamar’s BMD start pumping major $ into the basketball team’s NIL, that’s just the reality. The Cowboys have a high mid major roster (with the payroll to boot - they have multiple kids getting more $ than the entire Lamar roster combined) and other than an occasional upset, you just can’t compete with that. We may not like it, or want to accept it, but that’s just the truth.
