LU vs HBU to be ESPN3 Primetime Game

FRISCO, Texas – Houston Baptist and Lamar meet Saturday at Provost Umphrey Stadium in front on a national audience on ESPN3. The matchup is the last of five exclusive Southland Conference games on the broadband network. Coverage begins at 6 p.m., CT.
  
Houston Baptist is trying to carry its momentum into Beaumont after picking up its first-ever Southland victory last week in a 31-21 win against Nicholls. The Huskies are 2-6 overall and 1-4 in conference. Lamar is coming off its bye week and sits at 5-3 overall and 2-2 in conference. The Cardinals are looking to finish the season strong and record one of the best seasons in school history. 
  
The Huskies are led offensive by freshman running back B.J. Kelly, who has posted two consecutive games of 100-or-more rushing yards. Kelly has carried the ball 118 times for 597 yards and three touchdowns this season. On the defensive side of the ball, HBU is led by linebacker Garrett Dolan, a Jerry Rice Award candidate for the most outstanding first-year player in FCS. Dolan leads the Huskies with 70 tackles. Punter Christian Guzman, another Jerry Rice Awards nominee, ranks 13th nationally with 42.6 yards per punt.
  
Lamar is well-balanced on offense, ranking 12th nationally in passing offense, 13th in scoring offense, 14th in scoring offense and 34th in rushing offense. Senior quarterback Caleb Berry leads the way for the Cardinals, throwing for 2,203 yards and 17 touchdowns with four interceptions on 167 of 284 passing. Berry’s prime target is junior receiver Reggie Begelton, who has 42 catches for 531 yards and four touchdowns. The Lamar ground attack is paced by junior Carl Harris, who has 623 yards and six touchdowns on 95 carries. On the defensive side, Lamar is led by sophomore defensive back Xavier Bethany, who leads the team with 67 total tackles and two interceptions.
  
This will mark the first meeting between the two schools.
  
Lincoln Rose will handle play-by-play duties. He will be joined by color analyst Rene Nadeau, a longtime fixture in Louisiana broadcasting and former LSU football student-athlete.
