WBB: Looking to Extend Streak

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women’s basketball team looks to extend the nationals second longest home court winning streak on Tuesday evening when they host LeTourneau University at the Montagne Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

THE LAST TIME OUT – Mississippi State

Midway through the third quarter, senior Chastadie Barrs scored her 1,000th career point as a member of the Lamar University women’s basketball team in the loss to No. 6 Mississippi State on Thursday evening.

Barrs became the 16th member of the 1,000th point club for the Cards. She led the Cardinals in the contest with 16 points. She recorded four steals in the game. As a team, the Cards shot 25 percent for the contest and recorded 14 steals. As a team, Lamar forced the Bulldogs into 20 turnovers.

“We played really well in the first two quarters and then lost our mind, but we played a really good team, that’s been to back to back final fours,” Head Coach Robin Harmony stated. “We are a young team and we had a lot of young players get minutes that will help us down the road and in conference action.”

LeTourneau opened its season this past Friday and Saturday at the SCAC/ASC Classic against Schreiner University and Texas Lutheran University. The Yellowjackets opened the season with a 61-47 win over Schreiner. They lost its second game 53-50 to Texas Lutheran in overtime.

This season, the Yellowjackets are averaging 55.5 points per game and are allowing 50.0 points per game. LeTourneau is shooting 33.1 percent from the floor and 34.3 percent on three pointers. They are being outrebounded by one rebound per game this season.

They scored a season-high 61 points in its season opener as they made 24 field goals in the contest. In its second game, they made nine three pointers against Texas Lutheran. Against Texas Lutheran, they committed 24 turnovers, which is a
season-high.
