I am really excited about the game Saturday and the new season. This is the first group of 4 year seniors we have had and I appreciate their efforts. Everything done Saturday night should be about LU players and coaches and fans. So I want to ask the LU administration to please keep any johnny manziel nonsense off our scoreboard Saturday night. I still can't believe that someone made the idiotic decision to put atm v. Alabama on our scoreboard the minute we beat Nichols and won our first home conference game in 20 plus years. We should have had a celebration video of past victories and teams to show after that game at least.

I don't mind an update of scores around the NCAA via PA system. However, I'd like for anything like that to not be on the video board which says LAMAR UNIVERSITY above it.

Your Crazy! The game was over. If you got there early enough you would see that they play games up to an hour before the games and if you would stay, they start to play games about thirty minutes after the game. I like it and completely disagree. Especially when it's a game that big. BTW if you didn't notice, the players were all watching and were just as excited as most of the people there. They had no problems with it. Oh and it was at least ten minutes after the game had ended as we, the students, were on the field and had been talking to some of the team for at least a couple of minutes. The fight song had been played and the Alma Mater had been sung.

Completely agree, put that crap on the board at halftime or something, but as long as the clock is ticking, keep the scoreboard about YOUR team or at the least, the other teams in your own conference.

Hey JJ, it was ten to twenty minutes after the game was over that it was put on the board.

I was still in my seat when the broadcast begain so 10 or 20 munites is a real stretch. Point is big t there is no room for aggi nonsense at Provost Umphrey Stadium. Highlites of any game are cool....but televising a game like we are all supposed to be interested was a bad decision and poor judgement. It probably has something to do with our AD being an aggi. As you can tell I am no fan of atm. I am also not a fan of ut or tt or uh. I am a fan of LU and I would rather watch a tape of LU vs West Texas State in 1964 than johnny jackarse running around any day.

I'd add too that it only enhances the idea that FBS is the bigger, better division. I know it clearly is, but we don't need them to keep FCS afloat. LU and ATM have no associations with one another. Televising them on our video board makes no sense; it almost puts them at another level as if it's a pro team for which to cheer. They're not; they're a college team within the same state. That's all. If fans want to watch other games, they can stay home and watch Lamar online and watch the other games on TV.

BigT's recollection is closer to my own. We always stay until the end of the game. We have seats on row 37. My wife has bad knees so we are unable to move quickly. We usually wait until other fans leave so we don't slow them down and so my wife doesn't feel like she has to hurry. The LU band had finished playing and the students had finished singing the Alma Mater and Fight Song across the way. Students and players were on the field.

Even as slow as we are, we were almost out of the stadium when the other game came on. Our seats are closer to the Dauphin Athletic Complex and our parking was near the Dishman Art Museum so two old geezers had all those delays and were still able to walk almost to the other end of the stadium before the video board fired up.

I find it strange that a thread that originally started out to make it all about Lamar has turned into making it all about the Scoreboard after one game almost a year ago. I think a lot of points about supporting the team, the coaches, and the fans were excellent. I think we need to leave it at that, and not gripe about something that might never happen again at Provost Umphrey. Let's gripe or discuss it when it actually happens again. Otherwise, we lose focus.

It will happen again if we are not outspoken and if we are not careful someday we will be ut-Beaumont or atm-Gulf Coast. West Texas State was an independent football powerhouse until they lost their identity and became atm-something. Now where are they? It is a cautionary tale. Texas A&I anyone?

I drive in from Houston for every game and leave quickly after the game to get back on the road and I was still in my seat when the broadcast began.

Regardless, I am done arguing and ready for Saturday.

I don't want anyone to stay home if they want to come to our game. They can use WatchESPN and other strreaming services to "multi-task" as a lot of LU fans all around us have done every game. I don't do that and never have, but I'd like to have fans in the stadium cheering primarily for the Cardinals even if they have some distractions. At least, they came out to enjoy our game, and those same fans somehow are able to keep up with our game, cheer the great plays, and moan for good plays the other team makes.

Our fans are no different than fans of other teams. A lot of folks are connected with their smart phones and are in the habit of doing several things at once. It's not a recent occurrence. Before smart phones, it was pocket sized TV's and before that pocket radios. I still remember my grandfather when I was a child (over 1/2 century ago) listening to one game on his radio while watching another on TV. Technology has just made it where folks can do that in the stadiums now.

Back to the main point of the original post, let's support our team. Let's support our coaches. Let's support our fans.

I want more butts in the seats. Let's get the non-diehard fans there, and do what we can to create an atmosphere that will convert them to diehards.

Yeah, and I didn't mean it in a "if you don't like it, stay home" kind of way. I was afraid it would come off that way. The portable TV/radio is definitely a sound alternative. I just agreed in that something that is school property shouldn't put anything pertaining to another university on its video board which says LAMAR UNIVERSITY on it. It seems off.

I agree that we need to have sell-out crowds at every game to see LU grow.

Go Big Red!!!

Wife and I will blaze the trail for you this weekend. :)

We're heading over from West Houston / Katy tomorrow and will be spending a few days in Beaumont after the game this time. Most of the time we are like you except maybe a little slower. We did change to a parking lot a little closer to the stadium this year so we won't be getting away quite as slowly as we have in years past.

Hey big t, I have 8 season tickets in the Gold section. I am not crazy. I am a loyal Cardinal.

Just in case your implying that I am not a "Loyal Cardinal," I'm not saying your are but just in case, I attend every Football game, basketball game men's and women's, Just about every Baseball and softball game, and quite a few soccer, volleyball, and tennis matches. As well as Club Rugby, Ultimate Frisbee, and flag football mostly because I have friends who play in the clubs. I do believe I am a diehard "Loyal Cardinal."

Also you having so many season tickets in the gold section still doesn't keep you from being crazy lol. It just means your a crazy person with season tickets. ;) As a historian, that game was very historic and will always be legend in sports history. In twenty years that game is still going to be talked about and who knows it could be the game that sparks one of the biggest rivalries of the future. None of us know what the future holds or what the impact of that game will have in the future. What I do know is the Lamar did the right thing by placing it on the scoreboard so that Lamar fans could witness history.

I'm done arguing now.

Beware the "flagship" school creep and those that enable it.

I'm sorry, I don't know what that means.

I think it is referring to becoming part of either the UT or A&M systems. Nt saying It couldn't happen but since we're already part of a multi-school system it is probably less likely.

There used to be alot of unaffiliated schools in Texas 25 years ago. Now there are only 4 (SFA being one) We're in no danger of being absorbed by anyone. At the rate the Texas legislature is moving it's more likely we are spun off into a private institution. :P
