Lamarcard81
Pick 4 or 5 teams you would like to play in preseason on a home and home basis (1 for 1 or prob 1 for 2) that would prepare us for conference play and get us some positve exposure. THIS IS NOT AN ATTACK ON THE AD OR THE CURRENT SCHEDULE. Heres mine: Game one - TSU or Prairie View Game two - UTSA (Riverwalk and Alamodome) Game three- Tulane (French Quarter) Game four - North Texas or ULL (Bus Trip) Game five - UTEP (always wanted to watch a game in the Sun Bowl)
LUSportsFan
I like all on the first list. I don't know if we could get a Home and Home with the FBS universities (unless we made the jump). I think most, if not all the FBS conferences have restrictions about playing at an FCS university now. Maybe alternate with teams from the following groups 1. Old Rivals - I like games with our old SLC / American South / SBC conference mates...like ULL, Arkansas State, Louisiana Tech, North Texas, UTSA, Texas State. We used to play UTEP and Southern Mississippi in the "old days". (We used to play Southern Miss in the Superdome). Those would be nice additions to the group. Tulane would be also. 2. Nearby - Prairie View, Texas Southern 3. New Blood - Maybe teams like Jacksonville State, Missouri State, "Battle of the LU's" with Liberty University, someone in the Big Sky or CAA
Guest Cardinalrule
No SWAC games, those teams aren't any good. I like our old rivals too. UTSA and Tulane sound like awesome ideas but I'm so busy I won't be able to make them until my kids are grown. And, keep playing a big boy: Big 12 or SEC. I wouldn't mind if we played a bottom of the barrel big boy either. Hey, after watching UT play BYU they may be the bottom of the barrel in the Big 12. coachacola
Unless Lamar gets an invite to the Sun Belt there will be no home and home games with UTSA, Tulane, North Texas, UTEP, etc. This year and last year Lamar was able to schedule 12 games, but normally they'll only have 11. With UCA, HBU and IWU joining the conference they'll soon be playing 9 conference games a year. That probably means Lamar will play a sub-D1 team at home and a FBS team on the road then the rest will be conference games. http://www.southland.org/Sports/ConferenceNews/Article/tabid/519/Article/11060/Title/southland-conference-establishes-future-competitive-standards.aspx
Lamarcard81
Oh well it was "Dream" schedule anyway. "so I still got a chance" to watch LU in the Sun Bowl? (Dumb and Dumber) Any chance IWU plays in the Alamodome?
coachacola
I'm still holding on to my long term belief that both LU and SHSU will get invited to the Sun Belt one day. I'm still not conviced that the SLC went to 14 schools (11 football schools) as a permanent setup, but under the expectations of LU/SHSU moving up in a few years and leaving the SLC with a more manageable 12/9 lineup. puddin tane
Since its a dream....and they are coming here.........ULL, Baylor, Air Force (maybe we'd get a fly-over!),cougar hi, Rice, .....He'll, since it's my dream...UT ... In reality, since no of them will come here, guess I'll go with......one of the traditional FCS powers--Montana or NDSU, maybe an Ivy League, team...beat up on Harvard should get us on Espn , LUSPORTSFAN new blood list looks realistic.....agree with cardrule....no swac, they suck.... So. Miss played at Cardinal Stadium back in the day...damn, I'm old..... Fyi--It's non conference, not pre-season....

LUSportsFan
Our inability as an FCS program to host FBS programs in Beaumont was one of the main reasons I was all for moving up to FBS. A lot of the teams that I enjoyed playing have moved on. I still think we should try to schedule former conference mates who have moved to FBS whether we can get them at home or not. Most of them would be close enough for our fans that like to travel. Another benefit is that we have a history with them. I would be willing to have fewer home games if we could play those teams...as long as we don't break the Athletic Department. It's still away, but one possibility might be to work a deal to play at a neutral site. We had several games at the Astrodome (UH, SHSU, etc) and at the Superdome (Southern Miss) in the "old days". Might add the "Death Star" or Pizza Hut in Frisco to the mix. I like the neutral site idea because it helps to get the university some exposure outside of our local area. Reliant or BBVA Compass would be nice. I live in Houston so it would be a shorter drive for me. :) It would still be an easy drive for Cardinal fans. A game at the Superdome might be nice. The drive is a little longer for our fans, but it would be a good way to combine football with the French Quarter. Wonder if the SLC could set something like this up for its teams. West Texas A&M had a televised game in the "Death Star" last night. If DII can do it, DI-FCS should be able to also. http://lonestarconference.org/sports/2013/8/8/FB_0808135301.aspx?id=1707&
