Lamar (5-7, 2-5 Southland Conference) - Coach Ray Woodard's Cardinals are seeking their first winning season since returning to football in 2010 and it's possible with plenty of winnable games, including against the three newcomers to the Southland (Abilene Christian, Houston Baptist and Incarnate Word). Quarterback Caleb Berry threw for 3,332 yards and 32 touchdowns with only eight interceptions last year while running back Kade Harrington was named the conference's top freshman. Craig McGallion was recently elevated to defensive coordinator, but he has only three returning starters from a unit that was fairly strong a season ago.

Sam Houston is on the schedule. Stephen F Austin off, though. In fact, they are off our conference schedule for four years starting in 2014 according to another thread. Also, we aren't the only team in the conference with UIW, Abilene Christian, and HBU on the schedule this year.

 

While I wish we had scheduled an FCS game or an FBS money away game in place of Texas College, it is nice to have seven home games this year. Their date was TBD when the season ticket renewal packages were sent out so they were a late add. We started the home season with Texas College the second year back ... a windy, rainy night. That was the first game my wife and I were able to see since Lamar brought the sport back. We watched every soggy, shivery minute of it. :)

+1 and I take issue with the comment about SELA and McNeese will win by 30. Did you happen to see Lamar play last year? They are getting better and they played teams pretty tight that in the past did win by 30. Don't sell the Cards short or assume they are that far behind the conference leaders.

Already counting the loses? This team is not going to be bad this year. We gave both SHS and MSU good games last year and could have won both. This team belives they can win now and we should as well.

 

Why the blowout prediction? Are you hoping to lose or just showing how cool it would be if we get blown out by McNeese and you predicted it. Theres a difference between being realistic and being a defeatist. Im so sick of this attitude.

I agree with Lamar as a potential sleeper. Other than not having enough depth, I thought they were one of the more talented teams we faced last year, and return a lot of key pieces. It takes time to build a program and I think we'll see a step forward for the Cards in 2014.

McNeese added two SEC runningbacks.

Schedule is weak. We should win. Berry won't win big games. He'll beat the sad teams but does not have what it takes to win against anyone good.

We didn't lose to SELA by 30 last year and they won the SLC. I don't understand why our fan web site has so much hate. I guess if you were that good at predicting scores, you wouldn't have posted it on BRI for free.
