Big T Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 My biggest concern is a chain link fence? There is no batters eye and chain link does not feel good to run into. Quote
LUSportsFan Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 My biggest concern is a chain link fence? There is no batters eye and chain link does not feel good to run into. Valid concerns, but that may be the norm based on a quick sample of stadiums in the conference and Ford Park. Looks like SHSU put a cover over their fence. It probably doesn't mitigate concerns of running into the fence though. On the plus side, the stadium will be a great addition. The renderings look very nice. eagle eye Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Yeah, there are nice features to the stadium but why can't the people designing the thing consider the SE Texas heat and incorporate a cover over the stands for the fans. It's the same gripe I have about the baseball stadium. It's not that big of a deal in March and April but May is another matter. I have seen high school softball stadiums nicer than what I saw on the drawing. I'm disappointed quite frankly. Quote
LUSportsFan Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I believe the drawing is depicting a cover. The issue may be the orientation. It looks like the stadium would be oriented so that the stands face Vincent Beck Stadium to the northwest so the drawing may be depicting picking up the afternoon sun. Doesn't seem like any cover would be very effective with that orientation. I think flipping the stadium orientation would mitigate the sun issues for the fans a little. It would also put the stands closer to the parking lot along Jim Gilligan Way. It might mess up the placement of the new support buildings that will be built along with the stadium though. I think the home dugout is traditionally along the first base line (based on a Google search) I also read that traditional field placement is to the Northeast from the center of home base through the pitcher's box to second base and that there are a lot of exceptions to both. :) There is also a set of power lines from the adjacent substation on the Vincent Beck side of the site...that may be an orientation consideration. I know. Way too much time on my hands. :) Sent from my Android device using Tapatalk2 Quote
Big T Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 EE, there is a cover. Second, I have been to every 20-4A softball stadium and here isn't any that come near to being this nice.... Quote
