coachacola Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 From the latest Bob West column: TJ football fans will remember Brian Morgan as one of the greatest kickers to come out of Southeast Texas. Morgan went on to set numerous SWAC kicking records while twice gaining All-America honors at Grambling. As of Friday, Brian was back in Southeast Texas as the running backs coach for Lamar. LU coach Ray Woodard hired him away from Prairie View to replace Nederland ex Kevin Barbay, after Barbay left recently for Colorado State. It’s a solid hire for Lamar and a good opportunity for Morgan, who had interviewed for an opening he didn’t get at LU last spring. “Brian’s a great fit. We’re fortunate to get somebody like him on such short notice,” said Woodard http://www.panews.com/sportsbobwest/x864259151/West-column-Jamaals-in-rare-air-of-SIs-cover-club#sthash.stVwunpQ.dpuf Quote
KABrother88 Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Wait we hired Arlington Nunn as a RB coach...is he going taking over the WR instead and let Morgan handle the RBs?...Nunn previously worked with WRs at SFA Quote
Mike Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Wait we hired Arlington Nunn as a RB coach...is he going taking over the WR instead and let Morgan handle the RBs?...Nunn previously worked with WRs at SFA This. Barbay was the WR coach. I see if I can find out if they made a switch or if Morgan will coach the WR's. Quote
LU Cardinal Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Personally I love the hiring of Morgan. He's another young Barbay type that should be able to recruit the area well. Quote
Mike Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 I verified tonight that Morgan will be coaching the RB's & Nunn has the WRs. Quote
KABrother88 Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 I think this will end up beings very good hire for Lamar in multiple ways. 1.) It allows Nunn to coach the WR where he mentored multiple All-Americans at SFA. 2.) He held the recruiting coordinator title at PV so he's proven he can recruit. 3.) His kicking background and the fact he was the special teams coach at PV could improve an already strong unit. Quote
coachacola Posted August 6, 2014 Author Posted August 6, 2014 Official announcement: Brian Morgan has been named running backs coach announced Lamar head football coach Ray Woodard Tuesday afternoon. Morgan replaces Kevin Barbay who left Lamar last month to take a position at Colorado State. With the addition of Morgan, recently hired assistant Arlington Nunn will shift over to coach receivers. "Brian has a lot of the qualities that we were looking for," said Woodard. "He has a special teams background which is an area where I felt like we needed some help. Brian also has a reputation of being a great recruiter. This is a great fit for Lamar." http://www.lamarcardinals.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/080614aaa.html Quote
