LU Master Plan in 3D

Featured Replies

Looks impressive...but I think most of us will be dead by the time LU looks like that...that was a lot of change to the campus and the surrounding neighborhood.

It's a 10 year master plan so we'll see how much gets done in that time frame. Funding seems to always be a problem. I think the next big push is for a engineering/research building. Hopefully they'll publish all the details about the master plan on the lamar.edu website soon.
Wow...very impressive. I've seen a lot of change in the past 10 years....so it's possible but it takes $$$. I like the vision.
I like the tower. That would really stick out.
I am guessing a lot of those buildings would be fraternity Sorority houses?

Pipe dream. Like the above poster said, we will be dead before Lamar looks like that. Lamar will be stuck with the same facilities and garbage infrastructure much like they are over at Nederland HS. NO vision indeed.

At least someone cared enough to make a cute video and little paintings. We will see another failure of a hockey team in Beaumont and get 3 more casa ole restaurants and that's about it.

It probably will be a pipe dream if everyone has the usual negative attitude. Here are the things we know are in the works.

New administration and honors building - under construction

New innovation building - under construction

New entry on the Cardinal Drive side of the campus - part of the project

New softball stadium - groundbreaking soon - stadium ready for the upcoming season

New Science and Technology Center - seeking support for tuition revenue bonds

Center for Water and Air Quality - discussed in recent convocation

A new or renovated student center has been discussed. I would not be surprised if that occurs within the next ten years.

Changes I have seen since graduating

Addition to Cherry Engineering Building

Montagne Center built and expanded

Dauphin Athletic Center - last ten years

Provost Umphrey Stadium completely renovated. Reddy Kilowatt scoreboard is gone. Oyster shell walkways under stadium are gone. Open air concessions are gone. Antiquated restrooms are gone. - last ten years

Sheila Umphrey Recreation Center - last ten years

Old dorms demolished - Five phases of new on campus housing constructed - last ten years

Old dining hall demolished - New dining hall constructed - last ten years

Branding of campus - increased signage and fencing along campus boundaries

McFaddin Ward Nursing Building constructed

I'm sure there are others. Will we see all the additions invisioned in the masterplan? Maybe we won't, but there is a plan. There are things that need to occur to make everything happen.

1. We need support from alumni and friends. The recently completed Investing in the Future campaign was a great start. We need that kind of support to continue.

2. We need a state legislature that realizes that a well educated population is needed for continued growth.

3. We need great leadership and commitment in the university and in the Texas State University System.

4. We need to change the attitude of "We can't do that." over to "Why can't we do that. Here's how it can be accomplished."

One thing is certain. Nothing will happen if one gives up before even trying.

Dude, seriously, just piss off.

Dr Evans has a background in Marketing. I have complete faith that he wants to come in here and leave his mark at Lamar. I do not doubt that their will be major upgrades on the campus and im excited to see whats in store. Only concern is every year there are some unaccounted for issues that cost money and could push back a project or two. Lamar has the perfect campus layout to make it a top tier campus, it just needs to trash some of the crappy buildings and build new ones, not remodel half ass but rebuild. He has already done a good job at getting enrollment now lets get the athletic programs on track and generate more revenue to upgrade facilitites. Cant wait to see whats in store.
