Lamar will travel to Hammond, LA to face Southeastern LA on October 3rd.

The SLC has moved to a 9 game conference schedule this season. It is also an 11 game season per NCAA rules so that means we only have 2 OOC games. Baylor is 1 already so there will only be 1 other...hopefully it's not a Texas College kind deal.

SFA's schedule is out and even with the addition of the 9th conference game this year we still won't play them (when it was at 8 a year Coach Woodard stated we would not play them for 4 years)

That leaves 1 OOC, SHSU, Nicholls, NWSt. and a bye for the 9/5, 9/19, 9/26, 10/17, & 11/7 weeks.

Going through the schedules of schools already posted and seeing when they play SHSU, Nicholls, & NWSt. it looks like this to me:

09/05 - other OOC game

09/19 - Sam Houston St.

09/26 - BYE

10/17 - Northwestern St.

11/07 - Nicholls St.

Woodard has typically shown to play his OOC games early in the year.

09/19 is the only common open week for LU and SHSU.

09/26 has all 3 other team playing.

09/19 & 10/07 are NWSt.'s common open weeks

09/05, 09/19, & 11/07 are Nicholls' common open weeks.

Only other scenario I can see is to open with Nicholls on 09/05 then either our OOC or BYE on 09/26 and the other on 11/07 (tough to get an OOC that late in the season this deep into the offseason). If we were to open with an SLC game Nicholls would be the best one.

If the Home-Road alternation holds SHSU would be in Huntsville and Nicholls would be in Beaumont. Last played NWSt. In 2013 there so not sure if it would be here or there.

Filling in some blanks and making some guesses:

9/5 some patsy

9/12 @ Baylor

9/19 @ SHSU or HBU

9/26 BYE ??

10/3 @ SELA

10/10 ACU

10/17 @ NW State

10/24 UCA

10/31 @ SHSU or HBU

11/7 Nicholls ??

11/14 @ IWU

11/21 McNeese

I hope LU plays HBU after Baylor, not SHSU. Looks like only one home game in September.

Here's the schedule from lamarcardinals.com.

The Lamar Cardinals will play 11 games at Provost Umphrey Stadium during the 2015 season announced head football coach Ray Woodard Tuesday afternoon. The 11-game schedule will consist of an expanded nine-game conference schedule and two non-conference games. The non-conference games will include one home date, and a trip to Baylor.

(FCS teams will be restricted to 11 game regular season schedules until 2019 unless playing at Hawaii or Alaska opponent.)

Im all for a giving a d2 team a chance to play us, cuz the big boys give us a chance....but this NAIA , bacone game is crap.....

Agree.

I really wish the SLC would set up some sort of scheduling alliance with some of the other western FCS conferences to help fill in the out of conference games and upgrade schedules. Another option would be to try to break into the scheduling rotation with the eastern FCS conferences.

Anyone know if the season ticket prices are lower since there is 1 less game and 2 less home games as last season?

Overall I honestly like the way the schedule is set up.

Bacone - Walk-over that will let us work on things early in the year.

Baylor - Ain't gonna happen.

SHSU - Yet to beat them since we brought football back...don't see It happening this year...may as well get it over with early.

BYE - Lets us recover from the previous 2 weeks which I see as the 2 toughest games of the year.

SELA - Remains to be seen how they are without Bennett but we'll at least have the BYE to prepare.

ACU - Better than I expect last year but we'll be at home so that's a plus.

NWSt. - Yet to beat them but felt like we would have last year had we played them.

UCA - Another team we've yet to beat but we've been more competitive each game and lost it in OT in Conway last year.

HBU - Should be a relative easy win.

Nicholls - See above.

UIW - Played them twice and won both but they have been closer than they should have been. Will be our first trip to San Antonio.

McNeese - Get them at home after knocking them off last year. Should have plenty of momentum coming into this game.

"For the Cardinals to have any shot at the FCS playoffs, they have to do damage inside the SLC."

thats some deep thinking, right there.....

I do what I can. Anyways, since Lamar only has two non-conference games, only of them they can really gain from winning (Baylor), they have to do MORE damage in the SLC. Hope I didn't lose you going so much deeper.

7-2 in conference should get them into the playoffs. If they lose to both SHSU and SELA to start the conference then they'd have to go undefeated the rest of the season. How likely is that?
Posted
Highly unlikely. I believe our best shot at going 7-2 in conference would be to beat SELA and drop 1 of the games between NWSt. and UCA. I'm interested in seeing what SELA looks like without Bennett. SFA knocked them off last year when he was hurt and didn't start (came in off the bench but wasn't effective)...but with the successful run they've had the last few years they should still be very competitive. We should be going into the McNeese game on at least a 3 game winning streak and have some momentum...that being said I think McNeese is going to be pretty good this year.
