Carl Harris needed to shed a few pounds.

The Dallas native arrived at Lamar this spring having transferred from the University of Memphis, where he spent the past three seasons playing football. The goal for the 5-foot-10 running back was to enroll in school early so he could take part in spring practice and secure his spot in the Cardinals backfield.

Harris, though, was almost ten pounds over his listed playing weight of 205 pounds and it held him back.

"We got him and really looking forward to seeing him in pads this spring," Lamar head coach Ray Woodard said. "And he was kind out of shape and didn't have a very good spring, as far as separating himself from the other backs."
