The Lamar men's basketball team is less than 24 hours away from stepping on the court for their first official practice of the 2014-15 season. The Cardinals will step on the court of the Montagne Center Friday at 2:30 p.m. to begin workouts. It will be one of 21 practices in the month of October for the Cardinals.

"I believe every coach, in any sport, will tell you the beginning of a new season is an exciting time of year," said head coach Tic Price. "Our veterans have been working hard during the offseason, and we have a lot of new guys that are eager to get things started."

The Cardinals return seven players from last year. That number doesn't include 6-6 forward Tyran de Lattibeaudiere, who had to sit out last season due to transfer rules. Seniors Donovan Ross and Anthony Holliday are the team's top two leading scorers. Ross averaged nearly 11 points per game last season, and was second on the team averaging 5.2 rebounds per game. Holliday overcame injuries in the early part of the season to average better than six points per contest.

The returnees will be joined by seven newcomers, including five junior college transfers. The incoming players consist of four guards (Kevin Booze, Zjori Bosha, Quan Jones and Benquan Petty), two centers (LeMon Gregory and Zachary Hollis) and a forward (Dontavious Sears).
