Big T Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 First I would like to say that this was a great and entertaining scrimmage. Several of the new guys were very impressive and several of the old guys looked improved. Dontavious Spears- He can shoot the 3, he can drive the ball, he can rebound, he was the guy who opened my eyes the most. Kevin Booze and Bequan Petty- Both are lightning fast. I would have liked to have seen more scoring out of both of them. They both had missed layups. LeMon Gregory- Physical, good rebounder, Good post scorer. Very impressed. Tyran L.- Best player on the court tonight. Plays way bigger than is 6'4 (which is more like 6'6 as he is taller than Ross who is 6'5). Big time rebounder and scorer. Bosha- biggest disappointment of the night. He look horrible on his threes and missed quite a few wide open layups. Several player blew right past him on the defensive end. He just did not look good at all. Hancock, Holiday, and Ross- All looked pretty much like I expected them to. Hancock hit some big threes down the stretch but was inefficient on the defensive end. Ross had some big rebounds and had some pretty big baskets. Holiday took the game over for the red team in the second half and brought them all the way back. I think he could be a force this upcoming season. Over all I liked what I saw tonight and think this team is going to make some huge strides. My starting Lineup for opening night against SMU is PG Petty SG Holiday SF Sears PF Tyran L. C LeMon Quote
lu cards Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Thanks for the update.think we will be much improved over last few years.bosha is a true fresh he will get better. Quote
Big Red Pride Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 I mostly agree with the review above with a couple of exceptions. However, I left with about 9 minutes left and missed the comeback by the white team. Tyran was definitely the best player on the floor. He is long and very athletic. He puts the ball on the floor well and passes well too. I think he can be an all conference player this year. Dontavious Sears was also very impressive. They both outplayed Donovan Ross in my opinion. Holiday is going to be a solid two guard for us this year. I was really impressed with Petty's quickness and wizardry with the ball. He was so creative that many times players weren't ready for his no look and behind the back passes. However, he is small. Booze did not look like a true freshmen and i think he can get quality minutes this year. I thought both of those guys outplayed Quan Jones. Gregory has the size to help us. He was physical around the basket and was able to finish easy plays. I'm not convinced he has the offensive tools to be a scoring threat in conference. Bosha looked fine to me. Is a freshmen and it may take a little time, but he is long enough and quick enough to get some open looks. Norman, Hancock and Mattingly played about like I expected. Marcus Owens stayed never came in and I assume he is nursing an injury. Notably, Donnell Minton was in the bleachers in street clothes still sporting his long hair. It is a shame to waste a scholarship on a guy that isn't even a part of our team. Hopefully, he figures some things out for his future. Quote
coachacola Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Looks as though Minton violated team rules and wasn't allowed to play in the scrimmage. http://blog.beaumontenterprise.com/inthecards/2014/11/04/hair-today-gone-tomorrow/ Quote

I'll have to give Price credit on this one. These kids are representing the University..it's great that Price realizes that. Quote
Big T Posted November 5, 2014 Author Posted November 5, 2014 Wow.... I completely disagree with this. I realize that I am one of the few who do not have anything against tattoos, piercings, or long hair it just does not bother me. Some of the most professional men and women I know have dreads. I know a ton more who have more tattoos than they can count yet they are wearing suits and making six figures. Out of the three piercings are the one that is kind of a bit iffy with me but it is their personal choice. I just completely disagree with this hair thing. I see nothing wrong. Quote
bigredfan2 Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 I enjoyed the previous comments and I agree with most of them. I was and still not familiar with many of the new players. Being a photographer, I loose track of the game looking to get a great shot. But the new players on the Red team lead most of the game and by large margins over the return players on the White team. That showed some great potential for a great team this and the years to come. I think there was a pretty nice crowd that enjoyed an exciting ending. I liked the student attendance and hope that they come to games and make the noise that I have heard years past. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.958682580826796.1073741931.107657622595967&type=1 Quote

Sweet T Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 My starters pg Quan jones Sg zjori bosha f dontavious sears f. # 5 C. Gregory Zjori is a pure shooter. We all know he won't shoot that poorly again. Tic price said they had a scrimmage that was not open to the public and he shot lights out. He is having to adjust from playing quarters to playing halves. Dont count him out yet. Quote
