I just hope they don't rush it. Rushed construction generally doesn't have a good outcome, down the road. I can't understand why the didn't start this, as soon as softball season was over last year.

This is has been a shitty, wet winter......I can't remember a winter that rained so much....

It has but looking at rendering vs what is out there right now I don't believe they would have finished with out weather delays. From the coaches and players perspective as long as they have a field and a backstop I'm sure they are happy but you know there has to be some disappointment that the stadium is no where near complete.

They didn't start it till later due to trying to find one more donor. They then had to wait because Lamar was hosting the SLC soccer tourney and the SLC would not let them start construction until the tourney had finished for safety reasons.

Below is a picture of the ribbon cutting ceremony before the first game. There was a great turnout. Official attendance was 440 and I think that would be pretty close. Since the grandstands are not up yet, the university moved over one section of bleachers from the soccer stadium. There was also a smaller set of bleachers to the left of that. Although there were still a few openings (meaning we weren't packed like sardines), the bleachers were basically full. There were a lot of folks who stood up behind the backstop stretching out to both of the dugouts. There were also a lot of people who arrived late as well as some who left before the end of the games. The berm even got used. I have another picture of around 15 fans watching from the berm area. :) As with the basketball games the previous night, there was great attendance and support by members of athletic teams for the other Lamar sports. In addition to the athletes, coaches were in attendance also. I'm sure other coaches were there, but I saw Coach Woodard over in the smaller bleachers. I also saw Coach Harmony. Big Red and LU made the games also. Big Red made the rounds in the stands giving out fist bumps.

Other than being chilly, the weather cooperated. If you haven't made a game, try to put it on the list. The Lady Cardinals are fun to watch. My wife and I stayed for both of the games on the 6th. Admittedly, it took us a while to thaw out, but we had a great time and were glad we made the drive over from Houston to catch the opening.

The mud was not a factor. There are a lot of concrete walkways in the complex.

This is going to be one very nice place when it is finished. We could get an idea of the size of the grandstands when they are installed from concrete pillars with anchor bolts outlining the future installation. The stadium will be one we can all be proud of when it is completed. I'll see if I can load a few more pictures. I have a few toward the dugouts as well as some of the bullpens.

Hey, they actually did put a cover over the stands! It's not as big as I would have liked but the initial drawings didn't show a covered grandstand area. Nice! I pass by the field a couple of times a week and the place is really looking nice. I intend to make it a point to stop soon and get an up close and personal look at the new field. Now, if they would just plant tall evergreens or cypress trees between the two fields and you really would have something!

From the Lamar University Softball Facebook site

Links to pictures of some of the softball facilities. Most provide a look inside the Softball/Soccer Complex building, but there is one of the hitting facility with a glimpse of the grandstands in the background.

I went by the new stadium several times yesterday and I have to say it's way better than the original drawings that were posted here. Looks like a darn good home for the Lady Cards!

Everything looks pretty much done and it really is a nice field and the pic posted above featuring the locker room and training room really looks nice. My only complaint is the cover over the stands could have projected a little farther out to protect fans from the first row back but that's nitpicking. I hope there is still a plan for a little landscaping around the complex there. Hell, I'd donate money for trees and/or bushes if it was an idea others would buy into.
