coachacola Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 The Lamar University Cardinals are in the unenviable task of trying to fight their way into the Southland Conference tournament in the final six games of the 2015-16 regular season. After a seven-game slide Big Red finds itself in 13th place in the SLC standings a game back of Nicholls – a team LU holds the tiebreaker on. The Cardinals (10-14/2-10 SLC) will look to take their first step in the climb back up the conference ladder Monday when it travels to Houston to take on Houston Baptist. The Huskies are 14-11 (.560) on the season and tied for fourth in the league standings with an 8-4 (.667) conference record. http://www.lamarcardinals.com/news/2016/2/14/MBB_0214160853.aspx Quote
geezer Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Looking at what's left for LU if the Cards want to make the tourney they have to win this game tonight. Of the six games the Cards have left four of them are against the top four teams in the conference, including at fourth place HBU tonight. Based on performance to date the only two probable chances for wins are the two games against McNeese and again based on past history a win at Lake Chuck is unlikely. Most likely the Cards will be sitting at home again this year when the conference tourney starts. Very disappointing. Maybe they can pull off a miracle. Quote
geezer Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 (edited) Cards in deep trouble early, after a little early success taking a 6-3 lead Lamar has given up 15 straight to HBU to go down by twelve with twelve minutes left in the first half. Garth is at home in Beaumont sick. Edited February 16, 2016 by geezer Quote
geezer Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 With 7:47 left in the first half Lamar has climbed back to get within six at 26-20 in favor of HBU. Quote
geezer Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Lamar is down by eight at halftime 40-32. Bosha has five points in the first half. That is the most offensive production I think he has had all year. Quote
geezer Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 At the first media timeout of the second half Lamar is down by four. Quote
geezer Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Yes Bosha made a three pointer in the first half. 3:49 seconds left in the game and Lamar is down by three points 67 - 64. Quote
geezer Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 If Lamar looses this game it will be because of foul shooting. With just a few minutes left Lamar has made 6 of 13 and HBU has made 14 of 16. Quote
geezer Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 HBU wins by one after finally missing two free throws in a row with 8 seconds on left in the game. Lamar turns the ball over bringing the ball up the court for a chance to win the game. With a two and eleven record in conference Lamar is most likely out of SLC tourney as realistically about the best they can do is to win two of the last five and the teams immediately ahead of them have easier opponents to finish the season. Skinny1 Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Well another close loss. Seems we can't win the close ones in conference. Glad they played decent on the road . Quote
