KABrother88 Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Here is a write up of the Houston Regional Combine held last weekend. Three former Cards showcased their skills in front of NFL scouts. The 3 players were: - Reggie Begelton - Dillion Barrett who transferred to Ole Miss as a grad transfer for his final year of eligibility. - Jeremy Johnson who transferred into Lamar from West Virginia. Only played 1 season at Lamar before transferring to Blinn, then to Houston, then to University of Charleston. They had very positive things to say about Reggie Begelton If someone can be characterized as being calculated, it’s Lamar University’s Reggie Begelton. Begelton was never labeled as a speedster, but he’s disclpline in all his route running and pass catching abilities. Not once did a pass touched his body, just his hands. As a sophomore and junior, Begelton averaged over 800 receiving yards and six touchdowns each campaign. According to the selfless receiver, the program’s offensive line coach, Chuck Langston, became their new offensive coordinator and transformed them into a run base team. After being a prime receiving target, the 6-2, 200-pound Begelton sacrifice his senior year of getting better numbers for the betterment of the team. http://www.locker-report.com/2016/02/15/the-2016-nfl-regional-combine-houston-held-offensive-review/#sthash.bxBmxQNZ.OKc7Gpxt.dpbs Quote
eagle eye Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 I like Reggie and I hope he gets a chance. I also hope he got invited to the big scouting combine in Indy next week. As the write up said, he is not going to dazzle you with his speed but he's got great hands and another HUGE plus is he can return punts and kickoffs as he did at Lamar. I think Begelton would be able to beat out a guy like a Cole Beasley at Dallas if given a chance. I think he would be really good as a slot receiver where quickness and good route running is more important than pure speed. Quote
KABrother88 Posted February 16, 2016 Author Posted February 16, 2016 Reggie didn't return kicks and punts with Lamar but he did play a lot on kick coverage and return teams...that will really help his chances as a team that looks at him will probably be looking for someone who can contribute in that fashion. Damn, I guess sometimes your memory can play tricks on you. I would've swore he returned kicks his first couple of years. You're right tho, any special teams experience he has will serve him well.
