KABrother88
[tweet]761360896656498689[/tweet] Being that Cox is still in camp with the team it looks like he will stick it out and take a RS this season. Texas LB transfer Cameron Hampton did the same thing last season and is back now. Edited August 5, 2016 by KABrother88

WBCP2
KA Brother -- Just interested, where did you get the depth chart? Also, interesting to note no Larance Hale last night. I know he is back on the team and in town. Apparently, Woodard kept him out last night for he's not ready to answer the media's questions. BE's Danny Shaprio sent it to me...he got one for an article he did. http://m.beaumontenterprise.com/sports/lamar/article/Lamar-football-players-boast-strong-bond-even-9122241.php In regards to Hale. I was initially told last week that he would be coming into camp as a walk-on with the opportunity to earn his way back on the team. I was then informed Wednesday by someone different that he did not meet all requirements for reinstatement. For what's it's worth the the camp roster I was given (and working on getting posted here) makes not mention of him. eagle eye
Ray Woodard said that he feels this is the best team since the LU program started back up. He also said the Cards have a legit chance of vying for a conference title. Hopefully, we don't lose all that talent to grades and misbehaving. KABrother88
After looking over the 2-Deep, some things popped out to me. 1.) The presence of 3 true freshman (Kendrick King at WR, Cameron Minger at UTL, and Shyler Staton at CB). Shows how highly the staff sees them. 2.) Of the 44 players on Offense and Defense, 29 of them begin thier 1st or 2nd season as a Cardinal...so only 15 of them have been we're here for the 2014 season. And this doesn't even include returning starters in Matthew Oubre and Larry Carroll who aren't listed on there but fall in that category. 3.) 10 of the 22 positions have both spots taken by these such players. 4.) 12 of the 44 have yet to play a down for Lamar 5.) At the Sam LB position, neither player has played a down for Lamar. 6.) Only 14 Seniors 7.) Only 2 positions where both players at Seniors. 8.) 3 of the 8 players on the DL are new to the position (Brandon Beaton from TE to DE, Mike Hargis from LB to DE & Chase Woods from OL to DT). Mind you that this will not be the 2-deep that we will head into CCU with...just the 2-deep to start camp. So returning names like Oubre, Carroll, Dedrick Garner or even new names such as Del'Chaun Rushing, Jayloj Bowden, Calen Abrom or the Crosley brothers could make an appearance before its all said and done. KABrother88
Coach: Quarterback Carson Earp could be key to Lamar offense Ramon Flanigan said he hasn't come across a quarterback like Carson Earp in his 17 years of coaching. There's plenty of quarterbacks in the college ranks with similar stats - 6-foot-4, 210 pounds and gaudy high school numbers - but Lamar's second-year quarterbacks coach sees something different. Earp "has a poise" Flanigan thinks could be the key to Lamar's offensive - and overall - success this season. "You really pull for all of these guys, but Carson is different," Flanigan said. "I'll probably never coach a guy like him again. His demeanor is undervalued. I haven't seen one like it." http://m.beaumontenterprise.com/sports/lamar/article/Coach-Quarterback-Carson-Earp-could-be-key-to-9124594.php Edited August 5, 2016 by KABrother88
KABrother88
Lamar football players boast strong bond even before start of season As Lamar football players slowly shuffled into the Dauphin Athletic Complex for report day on Wednesday, most appeared lighthearted and eager to start the season. The players - returning and new - have been together since July 10, the start of the second session of summer classes. Their ability to gel quickly was an encouraging sign for Cardinals head coach Ray Woodard. "A big advantage of having the kids here during the summer is that they get to bond before actual football happens," Woodard said. "They get to see what everyone's like off the field." http://m.beaumontenterprise.com/sports/lamar/article/Lamar-football-players-boast-strong-bond-even-9122241.php

KABrother88
I got info. that a Texan scout was at practice on Saturday. Great to hear so early in season. Good to see the senior class getting some attention. I think you'll start to see a lot of Danny Woodhead comparisons with Kade Harrington. He might not get drafted due to his size but that kind of potential should land him an opportunity somewhere. With another good season I think Treadway could get some attention as well. I feel like the best shot of getting drafted right now is Brendan Langley. If he can replicate what he did in half a season last year all season this year, to go with his size/speed combo, he could be looking at a 6th-7th round selection. dirtybird
Looked at 2017 NFL CBS draft prospect rankings. Herrington is ranked 21 for running backs. Langley is ranked 22 for DB's. Treadway is ranked 31 for offense guards. Just noticed he has the highest ranking from the state of Texas . That's pretty impressive for Lamar players. Treadway is ranked 31 for offense guards. Just noticed he has the highest ranking from the state of Texas . That's pretty impressive for Lamar players. Looking at the 2016 NFL draft, there were 20 RBs taken so Harrington would be right on the fringe. There were 32 CBs taken so that would put Langley in a good position. There were only 13 OGs taken but the beauty of it is it only takes 1 team to see the value in you. I honestly feel like all 3 will be given a tryout at minimum. KABrother88
More recognition for Harrington any Treadway. They were named 1st and 3rd team All-Americans respectively by College Sports Madness http://www.collegesportsmadness.com/article/13430 Other SLC representatives are: Coach Of The Year - K.C Keeler (SHSU) 2nd Team DL - P.J Hall (SHSU) & Isaiah Golden (McNeese) 2nd Team DB - Tremon Smith (Central Arkansas) 3rd Team RB - Corey Avery (SHSU) Golden has been getting a lot of love in the preseason lists and it's not even for certain that he will play this year due to legal matters. KABrother88
Beaumont Enterprise's Danny Shapiro had a few notes from practice yesterday: As had already been reported here, Coach Woodard confirmed that rising sophomore LB Bear Christianson had left the team. Incoming freshman Tre Towery has also left the team. According to Shapiro, Woodard said he reported and left the day after. This is not new to the DL. The 2015 cycle we only signed 2 HS guys (Stelen Covel & David Dorsett). Covel ended up not reporting to camp and Dorsett left the team very early into fall camp due to a family matter. Add to that that 2016 JUCO DE signee Demontrai Lewis didn't qualify, the 2017 class needs a lot of help on the DL. The New York Jets scout in attendance was there looking at RB Kade Harrington and CB Brendan Langley. A scout from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is expected Wednesday and a scout from the Los Angeles Rams is expected Saturday. They expect as many as 14 scouts this fall. http://blog.beaumontenterprise.com/inthecards/2016/08/09/lamar-football-monday-practice-notes/ In addition to this I was able to get some confirmation on a few players I mention that were noticeably absent from the camp roster. R-Fr TE DC Arceneaux has a back injury that will keep him out all season. Sr RB Emmitt Raleigh, Jr LB Tyre Alexander & R-Fr DB Tariq Gordon are all ineligible but will still practice once school starts...presumably scout team members. R-Fr LB/DE Marcus Odell is no longer with the team.
