Ray Woodard no longer coach of Lamar football

I think it would be disrespectful to not thank Coach Woodard for doing what he was hired to do...revived a program that had been dormant for 21 years. That being said, I honestly feel he wasn't the man for the job to get Lamar to the next level. Now we just hope the AD doesn't screw this oppurtunity up.

I cannot agree with you more. Coach Woodard started the program from nothing and he got it up and running. For what it's worth to him , in what has to be difficult times for him, Thank you for everything that you did for Lamar and good luck to you, in your future endeavors.

Believe me when I say that McNeese is not the team I would pull for. Only reason I went there is because they had the program that I wanted in those days. I'm a Port Arthur native and Lamar supporter. By the way I'm an all weather suppprter not just a fair-weather supporter, I supported the Cardinals all year through thick and thin, no matter what the score was and I will be supporting them next year wether they are undefeated or winless. When I support a team it is no matter how they play or how they are coached because those players were recruited to play the game and the coaches were hired to coach the game. The reason why you don't see those coaches or players on this website is because they could care less about the BS on here. They know what to do without any armchair QB or fantasy team coach trying to preach that they know how to play or coach the game. It's a fact that if anyone here could do it then they would apply for the job, that includes myself as well. Just leave it to the administration to hire the right man for the job, if that's not good enough then maybe finding another team to support is the option to take.

been going to games since Jabo Leonard was kicking em through. Season ticket holder , also.

So, I am not a fair weather fan, but fair weather fans are what we need...then maybe they turn into LU fans. The games this year were so bad and fricking boring, only a die hard showed up. i wouldnt have asked anyone to come, hell, theyd never go back. Attendance bit the dust, record bit the dust, change was needed.

damn, ex-Colleens are a sensitive bunch.....

Bobby Hauck. Was the man at Montana. He could do the same here. Get it done Jason. The guy was fun to watch and made the southland his bitch year in and year out.

does he pass pass and then pass some more?

i imagine Kingsbury will be looking for a job....

Samford coach passes a bunch...am commerce coach just wins...just dont get dodge or stump...dont hire from within.

Puddin he does pass... and pass a ton. Had some really good qbs. He went to Unlv and failed he is a special teams coordinator at San Diego state. He was 80-17 at Montana and was a conference champ 7 years.. made 3 or 4 national championships though he didn't win any. I would also say the Boise coach that flopped at Colorado. He started that run.

I believe that was around 1994 or 1995.. that was one of the first college football games I had been to. Montana had a pretty good QB at the time Dave Dickenson... I just think Lamar needs a coach with a pedigree like Haucks... He may not been as successful in the FBS but the guy was a proven winner at the FCS level. I hope Henderson goes after this guy.

They know what to do without any armchair QB or fantasy team coach trying to preach that they know how to play or coach the game. Please don't give me this crap about someone, who has never played or coached, can't tell when a program is failing. There are other organizations and hundreds of other people who are impacted by the success of or lack of success of the football team. My son and hundreds of others have put in thousands of man hours building a marching band that Lamar could be proud of. The dancers, the flag corp, the cheerleaders, hell, even the SigEps and their cannon deserve Lamar's best effort in putting the best football product on the field.

You are correct sir! Everyone can and should have their opinion.... The fact is Lamar has been falling since old Kueck retired.. I remember hearing that the players didn't like him...

Starting a program from scratch is quite a task I would assume. Kudos to coach for getting this ball rolling. Hopefully Jason makes a good, well thought out choice for Woodard's successor. I'm sure he's been looking at least a few weeks. Thanks again coach for all you've done. Straight up class to the end. #PeckEm

Ray Woodard didn't win enough so it's not surprising that he's gone. He handled his firing like the class act he is. He showed up for the news conference--how many fired coaches do that? He said all the right things and did not make excuses even though there are clear reasons for what happened this year--losing Harrington and five quarterbacks (I'm counting McKenzie & Cox) are more than any coach could be expected to overcome. Good luck Ray.

I've never read the "Rule Book for Fans" but I don't think a fan is required to be a Polly Anna. I think if you're buying tickets and going to games and rooting for us to win then you'd be considered a fan...even if you criticize the coaching or the players. Coaching is a tough gig. Your "job" (wins/losses) is on display for the whole world to see...has to suck, but it is what it is. I think by now coaches realize that. I'd imagine they hate being criticized and hate reading negative things but I doubt they lose any sleep over what people say or post. I like Woodard, he seems to be a good guy but that's only part of the equation. At the end of the day the team has to win for coaches to keep their jobs. Hell, I wouldn't have mind if we kept him simply because we haven't had any scandals and he (with the exception of two players) didn't let the program get caught up in protesting the flag/national anthem. And, the two who were quit doing it...I wonder why (my guess is the head coach may have had a word with them)?

Ditto. Thanks to coach Woodard. He and the team represented the University well and did a great job reviving the program. All the injuries didn't help but in his line of work, you are judged by wins and losses.
