Skinny1 Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Lamar leads at half 47-35. Cards got out quick and maintained a 7-8 point lead thru the first half. Top scorer for LU is Frenchwood with 15 points, Weisbrod has 13. Quote
Skinny1 Posted January 12, 2017 Author Posted January 12, 2017 Lamar's 17 point lead down to 8 points with 8 minutes to go. Quote
geezer Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 (edited) Lamar wins 87-72 Was out for the evening so I only heard the first few minutes and the last couple of minutes of the game, but it sounds as if the Cards at least did what they needed to do tonight. The ladies host IW tomorrow night. The three games are on the road which automatically makes them big at this time of the year. Cards go to ACU on Saturday and then to Sam and Nicholls next week. The ladies host IW tomorrow night. Well, needless to say, we looked much better tonight than we did against UNO. But, UIW was nearly as good defensively as UNO. On the other hand, UIW looked to have better offensive players than UNO. Weisbrod really has some nice moves in the post and he is relentless rebounding. And, he actually passed the ball once or twice, lol. Frenchwood had a great first half. Bosha does a nice job on the defensive side of the ball ( but, damn, he is SKINNY!). Nzeakor had a nice game, Chatman gave us some good minutes, and Garth hit some big threes late after UIW made a run at us. And we actually shot very well from the free throw line. I still wish we'd learn how to set a screen. All in all, a nice win. Quote
Skinny1 Posted January 12, 2017 Author Posted January 12, 2017 Lamar beats UIW 87-72 for 2nd conference win in a row. Won it down the stretch with defense and free throws. Now 3-1 in the SLC. Quote
SportsGuy Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Great win, the offensive rotation looked much more fluid in the half-court sets. Next three are on the road, it'd be big to win at least 1... Quote
geezer Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 While with Lamar's records over the past ten years winning one of the next three seems like a good goal, I really think if the Cards are to challenge for a title this year they need to win at least two of the three. Based on this years records to date Lamar is favored against ACU so a loss there would hurt, but the Cards really need a win at Sam or Nicholls. Quote

If we lose all 3 road games, LU has a losing record in conference and will have to really turn it around to make the postseason tournament. Quote
geezer Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 After the Thursday games Lamar is tied for second place with UCA who Lamar owns the tie-breaker with. Sam took down UNO in New Orleans, Northwestern St won over Nicholls at home and UCA beat HBU in Houston. SELA won at ACU so as mentioned earlier that is a game Lamar should win on the road. Looks like the Southland is wide open this year with no clear standout team. Quote
