Saturday Afternoon, Cards at Nicholls

After the Thursday loss at Sam if Lamar is going to win a road game on this road trip it has to be now. Good news for Lamar is that ACU played at Nicholls on Thursday and lost by three. That probably doesn't really matter other than it means that Lamar should be competitive in Thibodeaux if they play up to their abilities for the full game. Can't afford to have anyone take the day off. I would say Saturday is almost a must win day if the Cards want to finish in the upper half of the conference race. Edited January 20, 2017 by geezer

Not a good start for Lamar as at the under 16 timeout the Cards have made one of four shots, turned the ball over a couple of times and have committed three fouls. Nicholls is up 8-2.

First half in the books and LU is still down by six at 40-34. Story of the first half is 7-1 Nicholls on three pointers made, eight turnovers for the Cards, and five players with two fouls each. Nicholls has one player with three fouls and three others with two.

15:08 left and the Cards are down by seven at 51-44. Nzeakor has scored the last 8 points for the Cards.

Lamar gets their first lead of the afternoon on a layup by Chatman with about thirteen and a half minutes left in the game. At the under 12 minute time out Lamar is up by two at 56-54.

7:31 left in the game and the Cards are now up by four points 64-60. Garth picks up his third foul and at this point the Cards have five players with three fouls each. Nicholls has both of their big men in foul trouble as Thomas has four and Ward has three.

2:30 left in the game and the Cards are up by ten points 79-69. Cards will have the ball coming out of a timeout. Can the Cards hold onto the lead or extend the lead. Should be close to Nicholls fouling to extend the game.

Cards get their second road win 87-76 with a strong second half performance and making the free throws down the stretch. Cards return home Wednesday evening for their next four games. Hopefully the turnout for the upcoming games will be better than recent history. Looking ahead next four at home followed by four on the road, honestly anything better than 4-4 over this stretch will put the Cards in good shape toward making the tourney. Upcoming games include home and away against AMCC, home and away with Northwestern St., home rematch with Sam and the single game with SFA at Nacogdoches.
