geezer
It's been eleven years since Lamar men last won a basketball game at SFA and the Cards have only beaten SFA three times since the year 2000 so saying that this is a tough game for the Cards is an understatement. SFA has a new coach this year and obviously as they are sitting in third place just one game ahead of the Cards, SFA is not the team they have been the last few years but history is still a hard thing to change. Lamar is sitting in an interesting position in the conference race as they are probably in the tourney unless the Cards were to loose all their remaining games, but if the Cards were to win out they would probably wind up as the third seed. Six games left four on the road and two at home. Tonight against SFA and two against teams the Cards already lost to this season.

The Cardinals will be much better next year but they aren't battle-tested enough. Losses at ACU, HBU, and SHSU prove that. Hope I'm wrong! geezer
At the under 12 minute time out in the first half SFA is up by six. Their pressure defense is keeping LU from effectively running the offense as the Cards have three turnovers in the first eight minutes and few offensive rebounds. SFA has blocked a couple of shots. Not a bad start but not a good one either.
geezer
Lack of size is hurting the Cards in this game as both Weisbrod and Chatman have picked up two fouls and there is still over eight minutes to play in the first half. SFA has four players in their line up at about 6'5" or bigger for the most part and that is causing the Cards to give up too many easy points when they try to double team the ball or they leave the lane open for a layup. Would be nice if the Cards had a big line up. Edited February 17, 2017 by geezer
geezer
Halftime and the game is tied at 33. Cards got down by as many as seven points but were able to chip away and go into halftime in the tie. The tie is disappointing though as the Cards had several opportunities to take the lead but missed shots and free throws that could have gotten the lead. Good news is the Cards survived the first half without anyone picking up their third foul, although Nzeakor, Weisbrod and Chatman all have two fouls. geezer
Cards come out in the second half and hit some three pointers to move into the lead by four points at the first media timeout in the second half.
geezer
11:48 left in the game and SFA has gone on an 8-0 run to retake the lead 48-46 on three LU turnovers.
geezer
After coming out strong to start the half the Cards have lost control of the game. The last eight minutes has been all SFA and Weisbrod has just fouled out to create the under eight minute media timeout. Somebody is going to have to step up to turn this around for the Cards and as SportsGuy said in his early reply that is not very likely. geezer
SFA wins by nine, 70-61 as turnovers and too many fouls cost the Cards the game and drops them into the fifth place seeding for the tourney. For the Cards to get back into the top four Saturday's game at AMCC now is a must win.
