Dracula
Can't find anything on spring football. Anybody got anything other than the new OL coach?
KABrother88
Been pretty quiet. I have heard that there is a lot of competition at every position and that the depth chart changes day by day depending on performance. The only position where I've heard this isn't the case is at RB where A&M transfer James White has been taking pretty much all the reps at RB1. KABrother88
ive been told its the complete opposite of the last regime.very intense and old school.also heard were getting another qb from smu.don't have a name though. Darrell Colbert is who I think you are referring to. A couple of our coaches started following him on Twitter a few weeks ago and he had been removed from the SMU online roster but this is the first I'm seeing someone else link him to Lamar. He played at Houston Lamar HS and lead them to an appearance in the State Championship game as a Jr in 2012 where they ran into the buzz saw that was just beginning to roll in Allen HS. Allen went on to win 2 more state championships behind Kyler Murray at QB who never lost a game in 3 seasons at QB. That State title game was the only blimish in Colberts 2012 season as they finished 15-1. Finished his senior year with an 11-1 record. He was a 3-Star recruit and the #32 QB in the country according to ESPN. His father of the same name is a Beaumont native and played at both Hebert and West Brook HS, then Texas Southern, then for a couple of season with the Kansas City Chiefs. Here is his HS film http://www.hudl.com/profile/686838/darrell-colbert

Anyway, I talked with a graduate assistant about the new coach. He said he is INTENSE! And he really likes him, I was very stoked after talking with this young man!!! We need someone who is intense and demands success and it sounds like that's exactly what we have now. For now, I am STOKED!!!
spoonbill
Case Robinson has requested and granted a move to tight end. There were several potential walk-ons with their parents in attendance on Saturday. Practices have been very up-tempo and physical this year compared to last. Great intensity. Coach Schultz is a very hands on, no nonsense, fiery coach. They need their freshman punter/kicker to get here asap and really need a walk-on backup. Morse was punting Saturday and did decent but they don't really want a QB punting I'm sure. Btw, Morse had an excellent practice/scrimmage Saturday. Some of the other local young kids have looked good also. We should have a decent local contingency on the field this year.

spoonbill
Was told he left the team. Roster has just not been updated. Yes He has left the team but still enrolled. I'm not sure what the criteria for updating the roster is. Some moves are listed almost immediately like Robinson, but the ones that leave stay for a while. LB Jarett Carpenter has also left the team, still enrolled, but is listed on the roster. Maybe coach is giving them until the fall to think about it, but he doesn't seem the type to let a kid come back after quitting and sitting out spring practice by far. I'm sure Case would be available to go back to QB anytime in a pinch if needed. The TEs are rotated in and out quite a bit. 5 sounds like a lot but they all will most probably get varied playing time.
spoonbill
I also saw a tweet that they added DB Jordan Williams, a teammate of the freshman RB Myles Wanza. Probably one of these freed up scholarships. KABrother had him listed on the offered thread.

Probably one of these freed up scholarships. KABrother had him listed on the offered thread. Summer Creek's football twitter account posted last night that Williams will be a preferred Walk-On. Williams' tweet indicated he was given a scholarship. Don't sure if there is a disconnect there or if he was potentially offered a scholarship for the 2018 season after he walked-on for the 2017 season. It was late when I updated that last night and failed to post about him at the end of the thread. According to his Hudl account he had 6 INTs last year. Little smaller for a DB at 5'8" but looked like a decent player to still be available this late in the game.

He has the speed to play receiver. That seems like a better fit but what do I know. I think Carpenter would be a beast with 20-25 pounds on his frame. You never know with kids. Sometimes they just get homesick. Jones was originally recruited at receiver and definitely has great hands. He's smaller but bigger than the 6'1" Case is tho. All three are great kids and I wish them well in whatever they pursue.
