geezer
Cards begin their final regular season series tonight at McNeese with a 6:00 PM start time. Cards need to take two of three from conference leader McNeese to be assured of a spot in the conference tourney. Two wins pretty much guarantees the Cards a middle of the pack seed. However if the Cards were to get swept then they will need help with at least one of the teams behind them will need multiple losses also. Come on Cards!!!! geezer
Lamar jumps out to the early lead with a two run homer by Arredondo in the top of the 1st.
geezer
Cowboys come back with two of their own in the bottom of the first. Game tied.
geezer
After a good start to the game with it tied at two through five innings McNeese has blown the game open with three runs in the sixth and five runs in the 7th for a 10-2 lead going into the top of the 8th. geezer
Cards drop game one by the final of 10-2. Worse is that there is now a four way tie for fifth place as Nicholls defeated UCA, SFA defeated HBU and UNO defeated Northwestern St. The McNeese win guarantees them the regular season championship and Southeastern La. clinches at least a tie for 2nd. Lamar, UCA, SFA and Nicholls are all sitting at 15-13 in conference with UNO one game back at 14-14.
geezer
Cards win game two so with one game left they can still control their own destiny for making the tourney. After todays action the Cards are tied for sixth place with UCA, a half game back of SFA who played a double header today to end their regular season at 17-13 getting a sweep over HBU. After dropping all three games HBU fell from a possible tie for first to fourth place. UNO also played a double header today and finished the sweep of Northwestern St to end the season at 16-14 leaving them a half game back of Lamar and UCA. For Lamar it all comes down to tomorrow as the Cards can finish anywhere from a tie for fifth to not making the tourney since a loss would have the Cards finish at 16-14 and if Nicholls were to defeat UCA both of them would end the season at 16-14 with Nicholls owning the tie breaker with the Cards. Never want to trust to the tie breakers when there if there is a four way tie for sixth place. Not having a clue as to how the tie breakers would shake out I can only say go Cards, win and your in!!!! Game time tomorrow is 3:00 PM in Lake Chuck. KABrother88
Nicholls and UCA actually played a double header yesterday as well wil UCA taking both games leave Nicholls at 15-15, therefore clinching Lamar a spot in the tourney as we at 16-13 with one game left to play. geezer
That is a good deal. When I looked on the D1Baseball site I only saw the one score for UCA and Nicholls and the conference standings hadn't been updated yet. Still want to see the Cards win today as placement is important. A loss today would make the Cards the eighth seed and would mean they would open the tourney against McNeese. A win would get the Cards to the fifth or sixth spot depending on tie breakers. Might not make a difference in the final outcome, but you definitely want to win game one of the tourney and stay out of the loser bracket as long as possible. KABrother88
By my understanding a win today would boost us 5th. We own the tie breaker with SFA and my interpretation of rule is we own the tiebreaker with UCA.
geezer
Cards drop the finale 16-6 giving up runs in every inning. Not much success for the pitching staff. The loss places the Cards in a tie for 7th with UNO and the number eight seed for the tourney. This means Lamar will face number one seed McNeese at 4:00 PM in the first round of the tourney. eagle eye
The game against McNeese will be on Wednesday afternoon in Lake Charles. The optimist in me says it's LU's turn to win. The played 3 against the Cowboys this weekend and it went loss-win-loss so the next game should be a win right? Right. The sweep of SFA last weekend was so huge and it is likely the reason LU made the playoffs. It seems the team can play pretty well with their backs against the wall. There's no situation more urgent than the playoffs so it's time to pull up the leggings and strap on the cleats and go play some freaking ball!! Go Cards!!! MattyKfromPA
All games, including LU vs McNeese, will be at Constellation Field. We're away, but that doesn't mean we're playing in Lake Charles. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
