Regional play is wrapping up but the big story so far is Sam Houston just took down national seed Texas Tech to advance to the Super Regionals. This is the first time a Southland Conference school has made it past the regionals.

Sam had a very good weekend defeating two Power 5 programs taking two games from Arizona and two of three games against Tech. They will either get Florida St or Auburn depending on who wins that game tonight in the Super Regional with a head to head best two of three game series. Also Southeastern La performed well in the Baton Rouge Regional.

SELA got a lot of respect going into that regional being the #2 seed. And just think these were the #2 (SELA) and #3 (SHSU) seeds in the SLC tourney...and the #1 seed (McNeese) didn't even make the NCAA tourney...

The NCAA selection committee went with RPI in picking Southeastern over McNeese and discounting McNeese's two game margin in winning the conference.Both teams lost two of three in the conference tournament.McNeese had an RPI of 42 last I checked and Southeastern was 27 due in part to a better strength of nonconference schedule.While McNeese did have a better RPI than some teams picked at large some slightly higher RPI teams did not get in either.McNeese held wins over LSU and Missouri State who are in the super regionals.We got to keep doing well to get 2-3 in tourney in the future.

After a close game one loss to Florida State on Saturday, Sam Houston got blown out Sunday to end their season and end the season for the SLC. Overall a good showing in the post season by the SLC.
