Dracula
While attending or whatever I was doing at Lamar,in the early seventies, I remember the bell on the hill. I was at the last LU game. I want to say it was vs McNeese and that was that. Now, 30 years later, one of the best football traditions returns. https://lamarcardinals.com/news/2018/8/30/football-bells-return-to-provost-umphrey-stadium.aspx
KABrother88
The bell was before my time but it’s always so much better to have a tradition restarted vs starting a new tradition. I was also glad to see that the bell is the original as I’m sure it has a lot of meaning to alumni and former players. I’m just curious if they are going to let the players be active in ringing it as the come down the side walk...similar to what Clemson does with “Howard’s Rock” as the enter the field. It appears from pictures that the old bell was more on the visitor side but from this video the other day you can see it’s now on the end of the sidewalk where Lamar enters. Some new additions to Provost Umphrey Stadium! Dracula
The original location, of the bell, does not exist anymore. The original field ramp was straight down the slope and terminated, I think, at the back of the endzone below the goal posts. The bell was on a black pedestal situated, at the top of the ramp,on the visitors side
Dracula
Another new tradition that could use some tweaking is the band march to the stadium. The band started marching from the quad to the stadium about three years ago. I think that it is a great idea but I would prefer the band to do the pied piper thing by marching thru the dorm area and playing the fight song. I think that the students would get behind the band and walk to the stadium.
