March 2, 20197 yr Lady Cards will go for the SLC regular season championship at 2:00 PM with the winner of the game locking up at least a tie for the championship. The men will follow at about 4:30 with tournament seeding on the line. Men are currently in 5th place two games up on sixth place SFA in the loss column. A win could move the Cards into a tie for fourth place.
March 2, 20197 yr Author Cards hold the lead at the half 25-21. SFA has three players with two fouls and Lamar has no one with two fouls. SFA is leading in rebounds but have 15 turnovers compared to seven for Lamar.
March 2, 20197 yr Author Ladies come out strong in the third quarter and open up an 18 point lead at 50-32.
March 2, 20197 yr Author Lamar ladies clinch a tie for the regular season championship and probably the number one seed in the conference tourney with a 62-46 win over SFA. Cards were led by Kinard with 23 points and Barrs with 14 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals.
March 2, 20197 yr Lamar needs to stop penetration drives to basket without fouling. Edited March 2, 20197 yr by Skinny1
March 3, 20197 yr 11:59 left Cards up 58-57. SFA has 2 starters on bench with 4 fouls. Cards are missing too many free throws and forcing shots.
March 3, 20197 yr Author Had another event so missed about the first three quarters of this game. Hoping the Cards can make a good push and get a win.
March 3, 20197 yr 3:28 left, Lamar leads 72-71. SFA is shooting 75% from the free throw line while LU is shooting a dismal 57%.
March 3, 20197 yr Not sure if Lamar won this game or SFA did a better job of losing. Final score Lamar 81, Jacks 79.
March 3, 20197 yr Author Good news is LU is guaranteed the fifth seed in the tourney, bad news is they probably have very minimal chance of getting to fourth as the only way is for SELA to loose both games next week. They play UNO and Nicholls.
March 3, 20197 yr Author If Buster's shooting gets better Garth's three point record may only last about three more years.
March 3, 20197 yr The women out hustled SFA all night .The clutch 3 by Buster and then an interesting substitution helped us win.Buster, multiple times, broke ankles with his crossovers before launching bombs. We wanted to yell that there was a cleanup needed in aisle three for broken ankled opponents lying on the court.Easter came in at the end and helped prevent a drive leading to a game clinching steal. He was only in about 12 seconds but his defense was a key to the win.The students, band and crowd were really into both wins.Free food promotions help bring out the hungry students.Mardi Gras was also part of the nights clever promotion,

It was a bizarre officiated game which seem common in the SLC with allowing a very physical game in the first half then started calling it very close in the second half when the zebras realized that the physicality was getting out of hand. Both teams racked up a bunch of fouls before it was over.

They play UNO and Nicholls. Realistically, I agree with SELA win tonight. It will be interesting who gets the 6th, 7th, & 8th seeds. Probably 5 teams fighting for those 3 spots. SFA has the toughest schedule out of that bunch, and Tx A&M-CC probably has the best chance.
March 3, 20197 yr It will be important to be as healthy as possible going into Katy.Jordan Hunter has been struggling and gutting it out admirably.Hopefully, not playing again until next Saturday will help. Also,McNeese has a diminished roster losing their leading scorer and rebounder, who was a beast against us in Lake Charles, and they lost their second best big man.Maybe this will allow for limiting minutes for players needing that.We need the crowd and energy next Saturday we had this Saturday. We also need another good showing by the students and band with their red noodles.
March 3, 20197 yr Buster struggled to start but scored 12 points in crunch time (last 5 minutes or so). I hope the staff can find a couple of ballers for him to play with over the next few seasons. Price’s decision to insert Easter into the lineup on the final play was the difference. Kudos to Tic, who’s turned in one of his best coaching jobs ever if this team can continue it’s impressive play through the tournament. Free throws will catch up to this squad if they don’t lock in, you could see the lack of focus in Nzeakor & Garth. Those guys are too good to rush their shots.
March 3, 20197 yr Author While I believe there are things that lack in coaching, poor offensive scheme and less than adequate player development, I believe the biggest problem Lamar has had over the last several years was an attitude on offense of not sharing the ball and searching for the best shot. Early in the year the few times that Buster came into a game the first thing he did was look to jack up a long three or force some kind of other play to impress everyone with how good he was. The last five games he has been much better about letting the shot opportunities come to him through the offense. Garth had a similar attitude and I think you even saw that in his last two free throw attempts. As was stated by the previous post lack of focus, While I always harp about too many turnovers, it has been pleasant the last two games that the teams assists soundly outnumbered the turnovers. Hopefully this pattern continues the rest of this year and carries over into next year. Also glad to see Foster and Sullivan performing better the last few weeks.
