WAC commissioner to see Lamar play Saturday

Featured Replies

Western Athletic Conference commissioner Karl Benson will be at Lamar’s game Saturday at Texas State, which for some might reignite rumors about Lamar possibly moving to that conference in the near future.

But Lamar coach Ray Woodard is more concerned with stopping Texas State’s effective triple-option offense than he is about putting on a good showing for the commissioner.

“The showing won’t have anything to do with the commissioner being there or any WAC talk,” Woodard said during the Southland coaches’ weekly teleconference. “I’m more concerned with stopping the triple-option and not getting beat deep.

Take this with a grain of salt - the president of TxSt has mentioned that the university is currently active in discussions with WAC conference members about possible future members. I can only speculate who those possible members in the discussions are and who TxSt would recommend, but I don't think it's a coincidence commissioner Benson picked this particular game at TxSt to attend (just my opinion). Regardless, a good-sized lively red turnout in the crowd wouldn't hurt.
