That's the 15 million dollar question. Ladybird joined the forum, made one post, and then went dark. She/he said it was to make she/he go away.

Last time we went in depth (Puddin’s fault) analyzing Briles the thread got deleted. So, look out..

I think Puddin mentioned him earlier, I’d like to see us take a shot at getting Matt Mumme; OC at Nevada. Don’t know if he’s remotely interested but I think he’s definitely living things up offensively.

Not so fast Mr Dracula, Texas was 3rd in total offense and third in scoring offense in the Big 12. I think he was canned because Herman needed scapegoats

Maybe, but Beck has been associated, with major big time national programs like Ohio State and Texas, and now is slumming for an HC job, in the SLC. That raises a big red flag for me.

From footballscoop.com:

Sources tell FootballScoop that among the candidates being considered at Lamar (FCS – TX) are two coaches with recent FBS coordinator experience.

Tim Beck, who Tom Herman recently reassigned on the Longhorns staff after previously serving as the program’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach since joining the staff in 2017, as well as Southern Miss co-offensive coordinator / wide receivers coach Scotty Walden are both very much in the mix sources tell FootballScoop.

Scotty Walden has Texas ties, young, likes to pass, and only makes $110,000 at Southern Miss.

We wanted Schultz gone and he's gone, everything else is gravy. Even with Schultz, in my opinion, a successful early signing period was a dead issue. Let them take their time and pray they get it right. Give the new coach time to assemble his staff and hit the road recruiting. Everything else is gravy.
Agree wholeheartedly. I'm sure big time WR and QB recruits were banging down the door to come block (WR) and handoff (QB) every play lol.

Lol. 1) I think we had well over 100 applicants after we fired Schulz..so apparently there are a lot of coaches interested in "slumming" 2) There are a lot of coaches who'd die to "slum" and get the opportunity to be a head coach in the FCS. "Elite" coaching jobs are few and far between in the grand scheme of things. 3) Maybe he's grown tired of being an assistant and getting thrown under the bus? In any event, it would probably be a pretty good hire (assuming he is pass first) partly because he probably doesn't have to "slum". I'd imagine there are some FBS schools that are more than willing to hire him, big question would be is if anyone will offer him an offensive coordinator job. No way we can compete from a salary standpoint with most power 5 schools, especially with what they will pay coordinators. 4) The fact that he'll soon be out of a job...I'd imagine "slumming" is better than that option. The question is, did he deserve to get canned at Texas (finishing 3rd in total offense...doesn't seem like that's justification for a firing but idk). If he didn't deserve to get canned then maybe it turns into a good thing for us.

This guy looks like he checks the 2 most important boxes Dracula: he's young; Puddin: looks like he's willing to throw the damn ball. Let's sign him! (If he's willing to come "slummin")

Have your daughter transfer to another university? Seriously? I think you're being overly dramatic. What happened at Baylor will never occur again under Briles' watch. It just wouldn't. Briles made mistakes but why did Baylor pay him $15 million?

I do not know why Briles received the payout! Their are a multitude of reasons, some of which would exonerate him and others that would not exonerate him from turning a blind eye to what was going on with his players. Those were HIS players. I have personally seen payouts to people who were guilty as hell! I am not hear to disparage Art Briles, and I have acknowledged his coaching ability! I cannot believe that he did not know what was going on but rather believe he just just looked the other way and this was just "collateral damage" for a successful program. That would be a failure of leadership. I believe in the philosophy of "the buck stops here"! If you can show me where he took responsibility for his lack of leadership and for not cleaning up his mess before it got out of hand at the expense of wins, then I may change my opinion. If that is out there, then I have failed to find it.

I don't think you have to worry about Art Briles to Lamar. He would have already been hired by now!

I like this kid. He's young, lots of current awards on the offensive side of the ball, and he likes to chunk the tater, a lot.

and then I found this,

"I don't drink coffee," Scotty Walden says. "I wake up jacked." I'm really liking this kid.

In my opinion, forget Beck go get this guy.

Walden sounds like a great offensive coach but does he have enough coaching contacts to put together a good staff.

You guys are killing me. We went from a winning head coach in the big 12 with winning record in briles, to an sec offensive coordinator, to a possible big 12 offensive coordinator that was pretty damn great with a pedigree, now to a cusa coordinator. Come on we are going down in our expectations. This hire better be a good one with all this waiting around. Quite accepting crap and putting a cherry on top drac

It has taken entirely too long - that's for sure....

Great question, and one I've never really thought about. Maybe dumb on my part, but that doesn't really concern me. It appears he knows how to run an offense, he's been a successful head coach in college, so....sign him! Beck would be second. For me, Traylor was a no all along so I'm ok with him going to UTSA. Briles would obviously be the best coaching choice but just too much baggage with the Baylor situation.

I'm tired of castoffs, except for Briles, who were probably making 3x's what Schultz was paid. Have you read anything on this kid? Everything is extremely positive, from multiple sources, and CURRENT. I have found nothing, to suggest, there is any crap associated with Scotty Walden. He's a successful OC, in a conference, that is stacked with bigger and better teams than the SLC and LU could afford to almost triple his salary and not break the budget. He may not be the only guy but he'll damn sure do. He's got my vote.

The winning Big 12 coach has a little "baggage" hanging over his head. That's why he's at Mount Vernon High School. The SEC offensive coordinator just finished an awful tenure at Arkansas (and I believe had a losing record when he was a head coach??? I think? And was run first.) The Big 12 guy, I'm ok with. The CUSA guy sounds far from crap. And waiting around? What, it's been 2 or 3 weeks? That's no time when trying to hire any employee.

UTSA hired Jeff Traylor within a week of firing Coach Wilson. So, it doesn't take three weeks to hire someone.

I would take either Beck or Walden based on what I know and have read, but my practical side tells me that Beck isn't coming to LU for $250k when he was making $800k at UT. Walden may be the next Lincoln Riley. I don't know that he will, but from what I have read, he may be just what I posted earlier, the young "fire in his gut" coach who comes to LU and the job is his launching pad to stardom!! If we get 4-5 great years with him, going his last 2-3 years deep into the FCS playoffs, then that is what I think we would all want. I think LU could put 15k+ fans in the stands in Frisco for a FCS championship game!!

Traylor may be run first, but he has not been a head coach at the college level. He had 2 powerhouse 4A state championship teams at Gilmer and he made deep runs in the playoffs pretty consistently during his time their. I think he can coach. Not saying that he was the best choice for LU, but we will see what he does at UTSA. We may have regrets.

I totally agree with you on this. He wouldn't be in Beaumont for very long but that's a good thing! I don't care if this is a stepping stone job for him - he'll do a fantastic job and get our program where it needs to be.

The more I think about it, the more Walden intrigues me. Hopefully Born will do his due diligence and see who in the coaching community give him references. Hell, he might be a great OC choice for UT! He might be the next Joe Brady!!

We are forgetting about stitt that coached at Montana. Guy was a good head coach for many years at Colorado school of mines. He had a bad go at Texas state but who doesn’t
