Lamar adds UTSA to 2021 football schedule

Featured Replies

UTSA will host Lamar at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, on September 11, 2021. The Roadrunners will pay the Cardinals a $350,000 guarantee for the game, according to the contract

Lamar would be making a lot more money on these "guarantee games" if the Cardinals were at the FBS level themselves

This link will provide information to future schedule for Lamar through 2025.

I think the end game of joining the WAC is to go FBS. That would allow LU, SHSU, SFA, etc to play all the former SLC schools (La Tech, the Cajuns, North Texas, etc), and all the other low-level FBS schools more often plus schedule some home and home games with them. NMSU isn't dropping down to FCS and their AD seems open to playing football in the WAC if it becomes FBS in the future. I envision something like a 3-5 year plan to go FBS.

I don't see LU ever becoming a dominate FCS team, so if they're going to be mediocre, might as well do it at the FBS level.
