I think it is going to be Alvin Brooks and it will be announced after UH loses.

We replace one guy in his mid 60

Alvin Brooks is 61, Tic Price is close to 66. That said, age was one of my concerns with Brooks and why he is not in my top 10. The other was his mediocre head coaching record.

He is a safe hire and if he can recruit, Lamar will be okay with this hire.

That's probably at the top of LU's list of coaching qualities they are looking for!

Dang apostrophes. I was saying it feels like a lateral move. He has accomplished everything short of winning big as a HC but has had a great job at UH. Hoping Marco takes a shot a younger guy who is hungry.

Lol. I have no info other than whats been posted on here. Apparently Born said new coach will have previous head coaching experience. So if weve already hired someone then why arent we announcing it? Either because they are actively coaching or because of the 10 day deal someone else mentioned.

Remember having a discussion I had in 2005 about different basketball coaches with Billy Tubbs. He referred to Billy Clyde Gillespie as a workaholic alcoholic or maybe it was alcoholic workaholic (thought it funny at the time). Gillespie was the coach at A&M at the time.

Well, a good Methodist will always find something positive to say.

I think I need to clarify my post about the interview between Harold Mann and Marco Born. Last Saturday, Harold asked Marco "how is be search for a new coach going?" Marco said he was "deep in the process." Then, Harold asked Marco if he was getting "quality assistances" applying? Marco said "we aren't just getting assistances but "several head coaches have applied."

I stated that I thought by the way he answered the question he was leaning toward hiring a coach with head coaching experience.

Sorry if my earlier post mislead anyone.

Thank you for the clarification.

Hmm. Interesting. I may have to change my prediction

I'm thinking he means Alvin Jr.... Al III is probably holding out for a Group-of-Five type job.

If it was Al III, it wouldn't be surprising if his dad joined him to support him.

I like the hire. Alvin Brooks is going to be a great coach!

I didn't have Alvin Brooks in my top 3 but if he can bring his son with him to Lamar I'll love the hire. I already think it's a good hire.

I am ok with it. Was kinda hoping we would go younger but maybe he has learned a lot from Sampson.

I was concerned that we might not be able to get anyone this good. I am pleased. Alvin is a link to the glory days--he played for and coached under the most successful basketball coach Lamar ever had. In a lot of ways Lamar basketball hasn't mattered since Pat Foster left. The world has changed since then and he's not Pat Foster but I am still encouraged by the pick. Peck 'em Cards.

We now need to get some butts in the seats at the Montagne. Lamar Sports Info guys need to push this for all it is worth.

Was encouraged to see Harrison on the team conference call, but Muoka was not.

Just read that Chris Beard is jumping from Texas Tech to Texas. He applied for head coaching job at LSC-PA almost 10 years. Hindsight is 20/20 but just imagine if he had taken that job, then jumped to LU. He would have only stayed a few years but LU would way ahead of where they are now.

But back to reality, the good news with Brooks is that if he's successful he should be here for a while. I wonder if his son will be making more as an assistant at Baylor than his dad will be here as the head coach?

Good question, about the salaries but I bet Lamar is paying AB more than you think. On another subject, I hope AB is bringing back Brandon Chappell as an assistant. Would be a dream if AB could get ABIII here as a first assistant with a chance to be a head coach when he retires. I know that is thinking way ahead.

I guess that's an interesting question but I really don't care. I've decided I am 100% on board with this hire. I think it is great and I think we will be winning championships again. I may even go watch a game again since I haven't gone to one since I finally had enough of Mike Deane.

Memory lane:

Things that killed our program and set LU back 30+ years:

Billy Franklin? The board of trustees that decided to kill football and then lied to the community when we did what was needed to keep it (someone help me with who all that was...all I can remember is Conn)

1) Getting rid of football

2) ESPN and their love of only the Big East

3) Foster leaving

4) Tony Branch

The great thing now...karma. Times are turning around. Football is back at LU. ESPN is a total shit show and sucks. Those idiot board of regents who almost killed LU are long since gone. We've hired Alvin Brooks to complete the circle. Let's do this!!

And one more thing, hopefully Brooks doesn't go after all the traitors that left: Harrison, Kopp, Muoka. I aint about sell-outs.

Since I said the coach with previous head coaching experience, that kinda narrows it down to which one. Must not be too big a pay cut cuz he's comin our way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kopp supposedly already committed to University of Missouri-Kansas City. I guess they were in need of a guard/forward who can only make free throws (was 17.1% FG shooting for 2 years at Lamar).

Byron Smith, head coach at PV A&M was also a reported finalist. His team has won the SWAC the last 3 years
