Guest bigred360
Lazeek, any more news on this situation?
Mike
It doesn't look like this has happened, at least not when I asked. I guess we'll all find out soon enough. This was assuming you meant the football staff but if it's for another sport I'll continue digging.

Mike
It is football. And unfortunately it did happen!! I'm not intending to dispute what you're hearing cause I know you have an ear to the school but my source says besides Mayper and Reeves the current staff is still intact and adding an additional position as well. It could just be a smokescreen before something official is announced but this is what I'm being told. Either way nothing would surprise me. Guest McneeseKilla
Who is it?
Mike
The latest info I recieved today was there's indeed another coach that's no longer on the staff. Other info passed along (again dont know if true) was after all the dust settles there would be a total of 5 new coaches on staff. This would mean if this rumor is true Reeves, Mayper and above said rumored coach would be the three of the outgoing coaches, combined with the added staff position this would make 4 new coaches on staff. I have no idea if this is the news LAZEEK was hearing, or if it's actually accurate information I'm just passing it along as I hear it. My source within the athletic dept continues to deny these reports are true so take it all with a grain of salt.

coachacola
im hearing whitten is gone. Well, he's applied for several different coaching jobs so that wouldn't surprise me. I don' think having a new OC and a new DC is necessarily a bad thing.

Cplatt
What is it with the turnover? Is Woodard a hard guy to work for? Is he a micro manager or what? Cplatt
Who Dat
What is it with the turnover? Is Woodard a hard guy to work for? Is he a micro manager or what? Cplatt id think it has to do with results. we've had a terribly underachieving offense last season specifically on the offensive line. we also had a huge dropoff in defense when we lost Hinshaw before last season. getting a better oc and dc would work wonders for the program imo. Trust me the underachieving had nothing to do with the oc, but I will agree defense needed a coordinator.
coachacola
From FootballScoop.com: Sources tell us former Baylor defensive coordinator Bill Bradley interviewed yesterday for the open defensive coordinator job at Lamar. Further, we have learned that former SMU assistant Dennis McKnight has been hired as offensive line coach at Lamar. Getiing a new oc is a very bad thing. i agree when the oc has a great season and moves on. most fans werent happy with whittens play calling and his offenses production last season. not to mention Whitten applied for every job opening in the state this offseason. that shows me he wanted out if hes gone. Now I'm not gonna sit here and say whitten alwyas called a great game cuz there was sometimes when he had head scratchin alot., but if you paid close enough attention you could tell what the real problem was and it defiently wasn't play callin. coachacola
I think Whitten has gotten a bad rap. The offense hasn't been that bad, it was the defense that really killed the team last year. Lamar was down to their 4th string QB against McNeese and the game was still pretty close heading into the 4th quarter. Lamar also hung tough with Central Arkansas. Since Whitten has applied twice for several different HC jobs it appears he wants to be a HC again, even if it's at the HS level. But so far nothing has been confirmed so he could be back next year. That's fine you can want that but just cuz you want that doesn't mean he is to blame for the teams total offensive struggles. I do agree though if he doesn't want to be here then by all means get him out of here and bring in somebody that does.

Whitten's play calling (at times) has been confusing, but given the circumstances we have been in with injuries, in hindsight he's been doing the best he could. The offensive line has alot to do with it, as did the lack of any running attack the past two seasons. The games where LU wasn't facing a brutal pass rush or where we found a run game Whitten actually looked like a good OC. Think about the UCA and SE Louisiana games, in both those games our offense looked pretty good. That said he isn't the greatest OC ever either. If they hire someone with some actual experience at the college level then we should be just fine this year.
Who Dat
we dont even really know if hes gone anywhere. noone on this site except a poster or anywhere else has said as much. if hes here i think he will benefit from healthy running backs and what i feel will be an improved offensive line under the new o-line coach. Guest bigred360
I don't think it is a bad thing for Lamar to be getting a few new coaches especially if they have DI or NFL experience. I like what I've read about McKnight and if all the new coaches have a similar resume it is great for the Lamar University Football team. My point exactly and add some of the personnel problems we had, that makes things difficult for a guy....if he's gone though hopefully we can get a pretty good mind to replace the oc position.
