Corsicana Mildred HS quarterback Nic Shimonek chose Iowa over Lamar last week. Ex-UT OC Greg Davis is at Iowa and recruited him. Found some funny comments on the Iowa message board.

Fucking Lamar University came in with an offer. Those bastards are obviously letting Iowa do the scouting for them ala Wisconsin! Let's hope Coach Woodard doesn't get in his ear talking about the year former Lamar great Billy Bell spent with the Chiefs. The dude is a closer.

Billy BEll was a hard hitting undersized DB that played in the mid 80's. He was from Dayton and later started at LU. He played for the Oilers and Chiefs.

saw 4 or 5 lamar coaches at png spring game.looks like they were there to see justin reasons.good size ol that will be a sr.saw byu talking to him after practice a few weeks ago so he seems to be drawing some interest.

Rivals is showing that LAMAR has offered RB Bryce Peters from Cypress Falls HS in Houston. He also has offers from Colorado State, Iowa State, McNeese, Southeastern LA, and Texas State.

Bob West says Woodard is interested in some players from Port Neches-Groves:

It remains to be see how much of an impact PN-G's 6-5 quarterback A.J. Smith can make in his only season as a starter, but Lamar University football coach Ray Woodard apparently thinks he's a special talent. Word is that Woodard has offered Smith a scholarship, despite the fact he's never taken a varsity snap. Lamar also has reportedly made a scholarship offer to Indians' center Justin Reasons.

Scout is showing that Lamar has offered 2-star CB D.J. Dean of Newton. He has multiple offers, including McNeese, Central Arkansas and other FCS and FBS schools.

quite a diversity in location and age. There are a few Juco players, also a few of these players have rivals rankings which is very rare that we even recruit that type of player. Bryce Peters and Temi Alaka and Fruge are all 2 stars players on Rivals.

Also a few players have committed that are on our list. Hakim Gray committed to La Tech, Chance Allen committed to K State and Nic Shimonek committed to Iowa.

I am from and currently live in the East Texas area till next week and I am hearing the kid from Whitehouse is a stud. Adding size defintley helps but at the FCS I think speed is the key? What do you guys think? I know some of the smaller guys at the FBS level get recruited for pure speed. Heck Baylor, TCU, SMU have made a living recruiting what was left over from the big boys. I personally think given our spread attack we need to bolster the offense line and receiving core. I'd like to see our offense be productive like SFA, Baylor, etc. Run the spread and just out score everyone.

Too early to really say what a recruiting need will be but I bet OL is at the top of the list. One of the few areas we haven't been able to recruit well in. Our only 2013 commit is a O Line guy.
