From Schuman's National Underclassmen Football Combine this summer:

Hunter Conn Whitehouse HS, TX, OL, 6-4-1/2, 282, OL MVP

Conn has excellent overall size and good body structure. He is very physical and is not afraid to get nasty while pass protecting. He uses his long arms to steer defenders away from the pocket. He could project as a big OG at the DI level.

Hope he stays committed to Lamar.

He probably will start next year! Like you I hope he winds up in Cardinal Country. McKnight has to be salivating over this kid!!!

Now that's the kind of size you want in a O-Line man

you recruit a local kid even if you know he's not coming to lamar because things change.he may go off to school and realize its not for him or theres a coaching change.when he looks to transfer lamar will be there waiting with arms wide open.if you dont show him any interest in high school he probably wont transfer back home.

+1! You did a much better job of explaining why than I did!

+2 of course you keep recruiting him. It would be assanine not to. These are 18 year old kids, they change their mind every time the wind blows.

Hat tip to JDCurran for finding this. Zach Stuart, a linebacker from the state of Tennessee has committed to Lamar.

Coach I know you saw these two quotes!!

"Lamar, currently a Football Championship Subdivision (Division I-AA) school, will make the jump to the Football Bowl Subdivision (Division I-A) next season".

"They're going to the Sun Belt next year, so I get to play MTSU — which is my brother's old college,"

Since BBall season is right around the corner that means one thing so is signing day. Are we still sitting at one current commit?

3 HS commits so far:

6'6, 290 lb. OL Hunter Conn, Whitehouse, Texas

6'3 200 lb. OLB Zach Stuart, Knoxville, Tenn.

6'2 200 lb. DE Romondo Stewart, Newton Texas

An OL kid named Kevin Greif at my daughter's highschool (Klein Oak) received an offer letter and has accepted verbally....but I haven't seen his name pop up on any board. Anyone seen that name before?

Never heard of him before now. I looked at his twitter account and he has Lamar University listed as his choice. Twitter:

He's not listed on rivals or scout, but what I did find out is that he's about 6'3 and 265 lbs so he definitely has some size.

He could easily get to 290 - 300...sounds good to me. I'd recruit as many monster linemen as possible. And either let some other receivers get more playing time to see if they can get open or recruit some they can get open.

Here is my thing with the skill positions especially wide-outs. I'd rather see us use the quick speedster type than a bigger taller possession receiver. We need some guys that can take a two five yard slant to the house or make some guys miss on a screen pass and gain first down yardage.

Good Afternoon, I agree we have several already in freshmen (#20, 25, & 16 plays RB & Slot) a lot of speed. We need to sell out on LARGE OL next season with scholarships we have left... :o

All the kids came in from ** Spread/Pistol Offenses ** just watching our attempt at (3 downs and a cloud of dust) ... We are by far as recruits of 2012 class in Southland the best if they could get on the field the rest of season it could keep them here, open up the offense and finish strong & motivated... Just saying... 8)

Not to be negative but that makes entirely too much sense for that to happen.

I am glad it makes sense to you because I have no idea what he is trying to say (damm16)

We need big tall and fast offensive and defensive lineman also the same can be said about our running backs. The ones we have at this point seems to down very easily with arm tackles.Florida

Alabama are hot spots for running backs and wide receivers,no stone should go unturned to find quality players. If our recruiters have connections with Oklahoma state and coach Woodard still has ties with Texas.Their be a way to work together on scouting reports, then maybe we can recruit with the big boys. They can only sign so many players.

Trust me there will be plenty openings for next year.....I'm sure there are plenty running backs want to come to a school that runs 45 times a game even when they are down 28. Only thing, if I'm a running back and I'm bigger and stronger than my O-line it might not be that good of an idea. Stength and conditioning program sucks at lamar.

How do you know/why do you say our strength and conditioning program is not good?

With this much attention from SLC schools this is a kid that LAMAR has to get. Can't let a kid that lives 10 minutes from LU campus go to a school in the same conference.
