PeckEm Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 Going to my first game in decades. Are we pretenders or contenders??? Quote
geezer Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 After three innings, Lamar up 2-1. Douthit having a decent pitching performance so far averaging just over 12 pitches per inning for the first three. Gave a leadoff homer to start the game but has minimized the ACU offense so far. Quote
geezer Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 Top of the sixth ACU gets a run on a single, the runner advances to second on a wild pitch/strikeout and scores on a double. Game tied at 2-2. Quote
geezer Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 Lamar gives up four runs in the top of the seventh to fall behind 6-2. Another error aids ACU. Quote

geezer Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 Cards get a run on a Snell homerun but are unable to complete a rally and fall 6-3 in game one. Quote
geezer Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 Across the street at the softball complex Lamar splits the double header with Tarleton. Quote
geezer Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 Still a lot of baseball left to play but unless Lamar can come back and win the next to I would tend to say pretender. Quote
PeckEm Posted April 2, 2022 Author Posted April 2, 2022 Unfortunately, we are pretenders. Too many errors, not enough hitting. Douthit pitched a good game but defense ended up letting him down. Ruiz needs to find a place on the bench. Also, in that big inning, stats dont show high fly ball to right that should have been an easy out. Somehow, our right fielder could not see the ball so it turned into a 2 rbi double or triple. Bottom of lineup non existent offensively. Quote
PeckEm Posted April 2, 2022 Author Posted April 2, 2022 Errors and walks will kill you! Yep. I think douthit only walked 1 batter and it was in the big inning. ACU batter was going to sacrifice bunt, uggh. Quote
PeckEm Posted April 2, 2022 Author Posted April 2, 2022 And $13 tickets, $6 beer. ouch. Here is a promotion: $2 beer Friday night games!!!! And bathrooms are nasty. Geez, spend a couple thousand and clean the damn things up!! Quote
geezer Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 Game two top of the fourth. Each team scored a run in the third to make the score 1-1. Quote
geezer Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 (edited) Top of the sixth, score still tied at one. No threats for either team in the fourth or fifith. Edited April 2, 2022 by geezer Quote
geezer Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 ACU got a leadoff homerun to retake the lead in the top of the sixth, but the Cards get a run to tie the score at two a piece in the bottom of the inning. Quote
geezer Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 (edited) ACU gets a runner on second with one out in the inning and Lamar decides to make a pitching change. Wheaton pitched pretty good up to this point and had thrown 77 pitches. The next two batters were the bottom of the order for ACU. First batter faced by the new pitcher grounds out but advances the runner to third. Next batter strikes out to end the inning. It worked out ok this time but it seems like most of the time when Lamar goes to the bullpen the opponent usually scores at least one before the new pitcher is settled in. geezer Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 (edited) Cards get a leadoff homerun by Snell in the bottom of the eighth to take a three to two lead into the top of the ninth. Dallas comes on to pitch the ninth. Dallas's first three pitches were balls, but then throws seven straight strikes and the third batter flies out on the first pitch to end the game. Cards win 3-2 to even the series. Edited April 2, 2022 by geezer Quote

geezer Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 Cards off to a good start for game three. Hold ACU scoreless in the first and then score four runs in the bottom of the first to take a 4-0 lead after one. Quote
geezer Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 The good start lasted through the first two innings. Top of the third ACU gets all four runs back as Lamar pitching gives up two walks, a double, a triple and a passed ball to allow ACU to tie the game at four. Lamar retakes the lead in the bottom of the third scoring one run. End of three Lamar 5 - ACU 4. Quote
geezer Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 Lamar got another run in the bottom of the fourth to lead 6-2 before the pitching fell apart in the fifth and sixth innings. Lamar gave up two runs in the fifth on a single, an error, a walk and a single and then gave up four runs in the sixth and a run in the seventh. As seems usual of late the Lamar bats go semi-silent in the middle innings. Through seven innings Lamar has walked nine batters compared to three for ACU. Score going to the top of the eighth is 11=6 ACU in front. Quote

LU down 11-8, 2 outs bottom of 9th, runners on first and third. Our lead off guy batting hits chopper to short. Called out at first. Our guys definitely thought he beat it out. I could not see the play on the WAC network deal. Quote
