This class looks pretty good on paper. Overall, I like the size and potential scoring ability. Will be interesting to see how their skills transfer to the D1 level. Will also be interesting to see if this group makes Brooks look like a much better coach than last season's play seemed to show.

Was thinking the exact same thing.

Lots of athleticism. Lots of production on the HS and JuCo level.

After a positively forgettable season, I see no reason those guys can't gel and be a 20-game winning roster next year. Way too much talent to be in the top half of the conference next year.

I'm really glad Lamar will play in the WAC in the coming year. It gives them a chance to prove everyone that thought the move to the WAC was bad because of the level of competition wrong. I will still root for Lamar when they return to the SLC, but just as I believe dropping football 35 years ago was a bad move and going back to the SLC from what is now the Sunbelt was a bad move, I believe Lamar could have been successful in the WAC and it is shortsighted of some donors and the administration to move back to the Southland. My belief is not about the current but about the long term. By the way I don't care if football is FCS or FBS, I only want to see Lamar compete for conference championships year in and year out.

What real difference is there between the Southland and the WAC? Travel budget is ridiculous- having to fly to the majority of competition.

The WAC move was based on the idea the WAC would move to FBS football; instead, they got scooped with New Mexico St. and Sam Houston moving to FBS w/o the rest of the conference (as the dominos started falling the moment UT and OU jumped ship to the SEC).

Who said we were leaving the WAC because we couldnT be competitive? Theres no doubt in my mind we could be competitive in the wac. With the right coaches I think we would (and should) be able to win championships in Football, baseball, and basketball. And with NMSU And SHSU leaving the WAC is arguably weaker than the Southland. Those of us who thought the WAC move was bad and moving back to SLC was good realize the WAC is nothing special. (Besides, it will be dead again in 7 years or less)

Omg. Lol. We will be lucky to win 12. I expect 9 or 10. Only because of the talent.

In many aspects there may not be as much difference with NMSU leaving. The travel budget is just an excuse as if you look at history Lamar has traveled all over the country for non-conference games and events including the men's golf team went to the Seattle this year for a non-conference event and typically go to Florida at least once a year. It isn't that many years ago the men's basketball traveled to California to play Pepperdine because it was near to one of the Lamar players home and gave his family an opportunity to see him play. Also, the WAC did everything possible to minimize the travel impact in setting up the divisions. Close to 70% of all conference basketball and football games were a bus ride away and I believe the potential for better non-conference opponents to come to Beaumont were going to be in the WAC. Personally, I don't care one bit if Lamar plays FCS or FBS football. I only want them to compete for conference championships year in and year out. With Lamar in the SLC my expectations is going to the NCAA tourney perhaps three out of five years. There is no comparison with any team in the SLC and the top four or five schools in the WAC in men's basketball. Maybe the Southland can become relevant, but every conference school is going to have to really up their brand.

Most games that teams play are conference games. So, yes, travel is definitely more expensive in the WAC. But I did like what they were doing with the divisions. Big schools will not go play small schools on their home field/court (especially in basketball and football). Those days are long gone. There is no reason for them to do it. I would be completely and totally shocked if any of the WAC schools were able to entice better schools to come play than the SLC schools are able to draw. Maybe Grand Canyon could do it with basketball...maybe, but I doubt it. Personally, I have NO interest in any of those schools outside of the Texas schools. I do hope SFA transfers back to the SLC. To me, we are a southern school. We'd be much better suited in other conferences than the old hasbeen, washed out WAC. But, again, we need to worry about being successful in the SLC. If we do that, we will be perfectly fine. FYI, the top 4 or 5 in WAC men's basketball includes 3 ex SLC teams. And 2 of the top are LEAVING. And there wasn't one team I watched that I thought "wow, their talent is so much better". It was quite the opposite. My thought was "wow, I thought these teams would be better than this". Anyway, thank goodness it's done and hopefully we can fix our crappy sports. Baseball has a huge series this weekend. Would love to win a WAC championship on our way OUT the door but I don't think our pitching is quite good enough.
