Cards enter this weekend series one game in back of Sam for the division lead and one game ahead of UTRGV. This is a critical series as RGV is the only series that the Cards lost in the first round of play. A sweep this weekend would put Lamar in control of at least a second-place finish in the division with two series left after this one. Opening pitch is set for 6 PM this evening.

Cards give away another run in the top of the fifth. RGV takes a 2-1 lead on gifts from the Cards. Through the first five innings Lamar has made three errors and two wild pitches to give RGV two unearned runs.

Cards give up a third unearned run in the top of the seventh to extend the RGV lead to 3-1. Lamar commits it's fourth error of the game.

Yes, the loss drops Lamar into a tie for second and RGV currently has a 3-1 edge for the year. Really need to win the last two in this series and then sweep Tarleton and ACU.

Cards get a run in the sixth on a solo home run by Kemp. In the seventh the Cards score four runs on a home run by McDonald, a double by Blankenship who scored on a single by banks and a third home run by Ruiz. Cards lead 5-2 in the top of the eighth.

Lamar takes game two 5-2. Still need a win tomorrow to put RGV back two games. Sam clobbering SFA in their second game so the Cards won't make up any ground today.

MacDonald has become a beast. He has to be hitting around .340

Cards drop game three 6-1. RGV takes the season series four game to two, so even though the schools are tied in the division race RGV has the tie breaker. If Lamar will take care of business the next two weekends against the fourth and fifth place teams Lamar will likely wind up second in the division as RGV plays Sam next week. Lamar needs to sweep the remainder of their conference games to have a chance to win the division, but Sam has a tough schedule to end the year facing RGV next week and ACU the last week, so it is possible Sam might lose three games over the next two weeks.
